Group meet at N.C. Zoo in Asheboro on Saturday July 14th.
« on: June 21, 2012, 12:30:50 pm »
Ok guys and gals. I've been wanting to do some sort of meet in NC. With Asheboro being the geographical center of the state, I think that a meet at the N.C. Zoo would be good. With the summer heat like it is, I'm wanting us to be there by (if not just before) the time that the gates open, which is at 9am (I'm planning on getting there at 8:30am). This will give us a good amount of time to visit the park before the heat sets in. Also, I'm going to "try" and get the company pass that will allow 8 of us to get in for free. If anyone else can get a Zoo Pass that their employer has, that would be appreciated as well. I'm not sure how we would determine who would get in for free if we have more people to show up that the pass covers. Maybe the ones that rode the farthest to get there should be the ones to get them? Anyway, we can discuss that here in this thread. But just to make it clear, one of the free passes is mine!  :)

I'd suspect that we will be able to see some interesting and exotic critters and then there's the animals and other critters that the zoo has.  :))

So .... who's game?

There are currently no plans to provide food or drinks, so please bring your own or be prepaired to purchase your items.

I'm sure I'll be at the lake that weekend.  it maps to a 45 mile ride for me.  You don't mind if I show up in a bathing suit and flip-flops, do you?   ;)

O.k. folks .... I've added this to the Southeast Calender.

Now this was the first time that I've created an event on the calender, so there are bound to be some errors.
Anyway, it's out there!

Hey, count another in.  I'm making what I'm gonna call the 'Sizzlin' Summer' Tour and this is the first stop.  It being a zoo is a fitting start to the rest of my week's trip to SC to see family... :)

Pope,
Trying to lock down a commitment, the "Boss" will let me know if I can come down and play.
Hoping she says yes.

Bring the Boss along. She's more than welcome.

Tell her that she has been invited by "The Pope"! That's something that she can brag to her friends about.  :great:

I'm basically in Raleigh NC, but I have plans to head out fairly early.

You know, I really need to spend more time checking out the details.  AsheBORO is not Asheville, and about 150 miles says so.  No worries, looks like an overnight camp is in the works.  Any recommendations on spots within shot of a morning ride of the zoo worthy of a textile Hilton?

There are bound to be plenty of places,  but I've never camped anywhere in that area. A Google search might be the best way to figure out somewhere to camp at.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

The long range weather forcast for Saturday is calling for 89F as the high with the normal chances of afternoon/evening showers. So it's looking like it's going to be a good day.

I'm still planning on getting there by 8:30am (if not before) and will see if I can find us a good spot to park. Ideally, I would like to park in  what I call the lower parking lot (Africa park entrance), then take tram up to the upper entrance (North America) to the park. But we'll just have to see when we get there.

I also hope that we can enter the park by 9:30am.

I can be contacted at any time (well ... not while I'm riding) at the phone number listed. It would also be best to just send me a text, as I let all calls from numbers that I don't recognize go to voice mail.

Same price, right outside the zoo gates, is Trails End Campground.

Bike is parked for oil change and maintenance, including valve adjust. Plans are better than pending, they are intending...

Phone number is listed on the event info that's on the SE Calendar. That's my cell number even thou it has a "H" beside it.

And then there was an issue with a torque wrench gone bad...RATS. Scratch one RTE for this fellow.  Ya'll represent and take pictures.  Just make sure the rest of us can tell the difference between the COGgers and the residents...   :)

The local auto parts will loan you a tourque wrench.   :great:  :)

So, you should still be good, unless you over tourqued something.  >:(
