North Carolina Beat-The-Summer-Heat Rally July 27 to 30
« on: June 01, 2017, 06:28:09 pm »
Are you HOT yet?  Want to find a way to escape the summer heat of the SE Region?  Let's head to the mountains!

The first annual SE Region Beat The Summer Heat rally is on!  the dates will be Thursday July 27th to Sunday July the 30th.  the location for the party is Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge near Robbinsville NC.  The elevation there is over 2000 feet and the average temperature this time of year is about 84 degrees with lows in the 60s.  While that may not sound cool to some, here in the SE, it's great!

Iron Horse is a very comfortable facility with everything from primitive camping to very nice furnished cabins.  There is a very nice restaurant on-site for all food needs and well as game rooms and places to sit and relax.  For anyone who has been under a rock their whole life, the roads in this area of North Carolina are second to none.  From the very popular Tail Of The Dragon, to the Cherahola Skyway, to lots of great dual sport roads, there's fun for everyone.

We're going to keep this rally simple, so we are not planning a group dinner on Saturday night.  We will get folks together for a brief meeting/announcement time, and of course, fun around the campfire will be part of the weekend of fun.  One thing to keep in mind though.  Graham County, where Robbinsville is located, is a DRY county.  Be sure to bring your beverage of choice with you for your fun around the campfire should you like.

Registration for this rally will be $10 per person to cover insurance and incidental costs.  If you are a member, you will receive a $5 discount off of that fee.

Registration will be open this evening.  Make plans to join us for a COOL weekend!!!!

Registration here:  https://cog.memberize.net/clubportal/EventDisplayNew.cfm?clubID=1328&EventID=244279&mo=7&tDate=%7Bd%20%272017%2D07%2D01%27%7D

Terrific Dave! I hope you bring the sidecar rig. I need to see that! Thanks for stepping up. We're out of town the previous w/e for a class reunion so we're iffy at this point, but hope springs eternal!

Great venue for a rally.  I have hosted a couple of COG WRRR (Winding Rivers and Roads Rally).   The owners are great people, the food is excellent and the riding in any direction is wonderful.   :great:

I plan on being there  :beerchug:

Kay and I have registered.

It's been a while since I was at Iron Horse. It's probably the nicest MC camp ground I've been to. The food is pretty good as well.

Hhmmm...

Now that New England fell off the front of the planning calendar this might fit in nicely. Glad my vacation dates are written in pencil.

Now looking for dual sporting in...

I just signed up.

For those that aren't familiar with the venue, they have great accommodations and restaurant/lodge facilities.

I have put on a couple of COG rallies there and the riding in any direction is great, and the Blue Ridge parkway is close by.  There is a small restaurant at the bottom of the hill that serves great fried catfish filets that my wife has to get every time we are there.  :great:

This is only a month out so let's get busy   :beerchug:

I may be out   :(

I am selling my GS tomorrow and I am not sure when I will be able to get another bike, it may not be by the time the rally happens.

Jerry, you can come in the cage. It's not like the roads around there are new to you. You know you only come for the campfire camaraderie anyway. :beerchug:

Do i need to contact iron horse for a camp site reservation or just ride in?

if you want a site with power, give them a call.  if not, there's plenty of space.  always safest to call though.

here's what their web site said:
We charge by the tent or trailer.  First come, first served on sites.  Reservations not required but helpful to IH staff.
$20.00 PER TENT-1 person per night / $5.00 each additional person per tent, per night.
(Does not include towels, towels are available for $1.50 each).
