Run with the Wolf Rally, 2012
« on: October 03, 2011, 01:17:36 pm »
Winter is coming and most of us in the Southeast are breaking out the warm leathers or heated gear. But sure enough, fine riding weather will come again! Mark your calendars now for the first big Spring ride of 2012! Run with the Wolf, one of the longest-running rallies in COGdom, will be held for the 18th year running on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21 of 2012. The North Georgia mountains are home to some great riding opportunites, no two ways about it. And we're going to be meeting in the area to do some tire-kicking, some campfire-socializing, and a whole lot of riding!

If you've never attended a Southeast regional rally, here is your opportunity to meet with fellow riders and enjoy the scenery, local charm, and great riding this area has to offer. From the challenging twisty curves of nearby Wolf Pen Gap (the namesake of our rally), to the shopping and restaurants of the nearby rustic German town of Helen, to the abundant picture-taking opportunities of the breathtaking Smoky Mountains, this area has something to offer for everyone. For those interested in heading out solo or in teaming up with new and old friends to ride the mountains, we will be offering ride sheets. And we will be taking Saturday night dinner together for our customary COG meeting and awards ceremony.

I am serving as Rallymeister (meistress?) for this approaching rally with a lot of help from other COG members, and while we are still ironing out some small matters, we feel this rally is going to offer some exciting opportunities for both our new riders and our seasoned rally-goers.

Details for our location will be forthcoming. We are looking to offer group accommodations along with traditional tent camping. We are also working to keep the costs reasonable for all COGgers as regards meals, lodging and camping. So get ready for Spring riding now, make plans for Run with the Wolf 2012!

Hey Jenn,

Since my Connie is spending the winter in Florida again, I might be able to coordinate the Wolf with my ride back home to MN in the spring.  It worked out great going down a couple of weeks ago....met up with the group at Barber for another excellent time.

It should be about the right time of year, huh? Makes for a nice break in a long ride, too!

Thanks for taking this on Jen. We know you'll do a great job pulling it all together. A great long run rally name with a few new twists. The shirt logo is my favorite of any rally I've attended. It's on the calendar for me................  Al

Yes. We do. Jen will be announcing the location soon, I'm sure.  Just remember that the name of the rally (Run With The Wolf) is connected to GA Hwy 180, Wolfpen Gap Road so we'll be in close proximity to Wolfpen Gap.  Hopefully folks will like the new venue.

Our location has been set. Run with the Wolf 2012 will be held at a new place, an all-new, just-opened campground! Wildcat Lodge and Campground is just outside Suches, GA, right on Hwy 60. This campground boasts brand new sites and facilities. The view from the RV sites is quite beautiful, the tent sites are wooded and cozy, and the bunk house is really unique, it's a renovated out-building of a farm dating from the 1800's. Facilities include a brand new bath house, outdoor covered meeting area, central fire pit in the camping area, general store, and grill serving breakfast and lunch (pretty tasty, too--we made sure to try it out).

The management of this new campground is taking great measures to accommodate our needs as both RV-ers and campers, and is very motorcycle-friendly.

Check out the web site, we're excited about the locale for Run with the Wolf, April 20-22, 2012 and we think it's going to be a great new place for riders in this area:

http://www.wildcatsuches.com/

Vic is currently working up the registration for this rally, we'll update you right away as soon as it's ready.

The Connie on Wildcat's website belongs to former SEAD and longtime RWTW rallymeister, Joan Moody. We've got some real opportunities with this new venue. Mostly, we need bodies to attend!  You've got plenty of notice; the dates are 20-22 April 2012. Make your plans NOW to be sure you can make it! :beerchug: ;)
