SE Events Idea thread
« on: August 04, 2017, 06:57:01 pm »
Shamelessly inspired by Old Man On a Connie's thread a while back. I'd like to ask all the SE members to put their "thinking hats" on and let's plan on some stuff. Fall is coming. We've got a couple of neat things like the Great Eclipse Ride to Eat;  RWTW;  the unofficial Barber W/E, and some 3rd Thursday Dinners, but what else can we do or where can we go?  I've been looking at some of the other regions' stuff and there's creativity going on! Talk to your AADs. Even if you don't want to run it, please help someone think of it.

I'll start: How about a RTS (Ride to See - a/k/a/Museum Run) to Barber on a non-race w/e;  a Ride to Cheahaw Mtn; a Museum Run to Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley NC;  BBQ on the Plains in NE Alabama (Tom - find that giant puppy!); RTE at Mickey Piggs' in Alto, GA; RTE Breakfast at the City Restaurant in Franklin, NC; Lunch at the Mountain Fresh Grocery in Highlands, NC; or ???

How about it?  It's August and before long we'll be grousing about what we call cold weather.....     ;)

Thanks!
Ron

Yeah! I think I recall that. SteveJ is on "walkabout" for another month, but someone ELSE might look into it. Neat!

What else?

You and I were talking about the Gumbo Rally in Lafayette La. Nov. 10-12. Cliff , Randy, me and a couple of Beemer Buds of mine went last year. The riding ain't that hot but the food is good. I'm planning on it again this year.

Good food makes up for a LOT of flat/straight roads.   ;D    Food oriented rides work well.  Interesting!

Greg, that sounds like a good location.
There is also a good BBQ place in Keystone Heights (about half-way between Jax and Leesburg) that Irene ran across... and they have MC parking!

It's been discussed in hush tones in the recent past to have an RTE to Frogbones in Melbourne, FL.

I've been here a few times, and although it's not COG frugal, it's a wonderful combination of activities...
I spoke with a few folks there, they'll 'host' group events.

We had an RTE in N. Atlanta last winter at a member's house who has a range. We grilled, did a little shooting (range officer, the whole nine yards). Lots of fun.

Interesting idea. Other than the Amelia Island "Concours" (Sp?) what are some of the things to do there?

The Concours d'Elegance can be nice to see, but FYI, the tickets for the real show on Sunday are very expensive.

Now as a better recommendation would be to join in the Saturday Cars & Coffee which is free barring parking.

If there are enough of us and/or some willing to bring 'classic/antique' bikes, I'm sure I can speak to the Cars & Coffee people about including us which means no parking fee.  But you have to stay through the whole Cars & Coffee day, till about 100p or so.

Hmm. Sounds interesting as a good local event. Maybe a breakfast meet up and so forth?

If it's done as part of Cars & Coffee, breakfast will have to be super early as you have to be on the green by 700a.

The Sunday show starts later.

Hi, new here, with a new, (to me) motorcycle. Had a DL 1000 a few years ago and decided to get back into riding. Just a suggestion for a good ride. Out of Morganton NC up Roan Mountain to Bristol Tn, back down 421 (the snake) possibly food in Shady Grove down thru Linville and end where ever. Did most of that this weekend and was a great ride. Damn, don't have feeler pegs now, lol Still don't know how all this forum works....

Hi James! Welcome!  That does sound good. Thank you for the suggestion. Input is GOOD! Where are you located? If you haven't done so, please go to the Introductions area and tell all of us about you, your ride, and stuff.

I'm Ron Simmons you SE AD and in TN/NC (maybe you're there somewhere?) you've got great riding and great AAD's. Checkout the event calendar. We just had a planning meeting and events for the rest of 2017 and 2018 should start appearing soon. If I can be of any help, let me know. Again, welcome!!

Hi,
It seems a few years ago people in the Central Florida area, liked to run to Yalaha Bakery....

For breakfast or lunch?

Haven't seen it mentioned for awhile now?

Admittedly close to me but a lot of 2 lane roads around (Steve J. being the expert on that!)

Just something maybe to throw in the pot! ;D

Jorge and I drove past that place a couple of weeks ago and I definitely want to go.  I'm game.
