Title: Smackdown at the Shack GA/FLA Border Challenge
Post by: reid53 on September 10, 2012, 04:54:05 pm
November 10th!!  Put this date on your calendar.  It is time again for the "Smackdown at the Shack."  This is our 4th year in a row now and is a RTE that you don't want to miss!  It is a challenge to the Floriduh gang and the Georgia folks to see who can bring the most riders.  It is held at the Shack by the Track in St. George Ga. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/149/932917/restaurant/Georgia/Folkston/Shack-By-The-Track-St-George (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/149/932917/restaurant/Georgia/Folkston/Shack-By-The-Track-St-George)  Floriduh won last year by cheating and bringing too many Steve's! :-\  We promise redemption this year and Georgia will win back the plaque.  The event is on the SECOG calendar.  http://www.cog-online.org/clubportal/EventDetail.cfm?EventID=160172&mo=9 (http://www.cog-online.org/clubportal/EventDetail.cfm?EventID=160172&mo=9)  We will start gathering in the parking lot around 10:30.  This place has great BBQ and is cash or check only.  They do not take credit or debit.  See ya there.

I plan on being there and there will be three Jerry's to help offset some of this Florida Steve ballot stuffing   :D

I missed last year because of my colon problems, but that is all fixed and I am ready to ride and eat  :great:

I'm not sure three GA Jerry's would even count as one FL Steve.    Al

I forget the rules, is it riders or bikes that count? Either way it's gotta be tough getting beat down in your own State! I say who ever wwins the other Boy's pay for BBQ! Oh, and for any newcomers, they have great restrooms.  Steve

Officially it is the number of registered COG members (per state )that show up that makes that state win.
But it is a fun time  while enjoying the good food &  time w/ friends that makes the day.

There could be five of us. :great:

Mike, glad you can join us for the BBQ. We hope you like what you see and hear, and will consider becoming a full member with us. My 99 has been a great bike, and will have 200,000 miles when I get back from Barber Vintage Race Festival soon.       Al

Marc, we would like to have another full membership from Florida help put us over the top at the BBQ. With all of the full member benefits for you and your bike, the busy ride schedule for the Fall and next year, and the feeling you'll get by becoming a paid member, please consider pulling the trigger soon and be counted with us. This looks to be a record year for the GA/FL BBQ Challenge attendance numbers, and each state is scrambling for more members. Please contact me with any questions on membership, check out our ride and event calendar, and join us when you can.      Al

Looking like this is going to be a great time!  Hopefully the weather will cool off a bit.  Not too much though.  Those Florida guys don't have enough heated gear to handle that below 50 weather! :104:

Its been so quiet on this and the other SE threads, I thought I'd be the one to shoot my mouth off to get things started again ( yeah....I know....go figure ). Would you like to hazard a guess as to how many riders will show up for this event? If you guess correctly and are in attendance, you'll get your meal paid for by SECOG. Go ahead.....give it a shot. I'll take the guess numbers with me before I head out that morning, so the game ends at 7:00am Saturday morning 11-10-2012        Al

Guess early and often?? :rotflmao: I'll go with 63 folks, about 17 Steves. :rotflmao:   Eddie, iff'n ya want, swing over here to ride up from my place. Figure on leaving my place about 730. Will also have a meet up at the Shell station at US 301 at rt228, just south of I-10 a few miles. Figure on departing there at about 10:45. We'll also be swinging by the Mickey D's in Interlachen for a short break and maybe meet up with other riders. I'm thinking around 915 leaving MacDonalds.

Edit to add: Coffee will be on at 7

Bill, hopefully some of the North Ga riders will chime in soon.  I will be leaving from Valdosta, Ga around 9:00AM with whoever is down this way.  Bobby and Anita Cassell may be coming from Warner Robins.  Jerry Holland is coming from the Savannah area with his crew.  Y'all bring a crowd down.  Weather is supposed to be perfecto.   :motonoises:

OK, I've seen a problem with this.  Like where is it?  The link states

Shack By The Track
(912) 843-8208
245 Jackson St
Abbeville, GA 31562

ABBEYVILLE????  Google maps can't find 245 Jackson St. n Abbeville.  But it can find one in St. George, Ga., just a block off the intersection of highways 94 and 121.  So which one is it.  I bet I know, the one in St. George.

I added to the above post that coffee will be on at 7.

Could be a bit brisk in the morning, the long range fore cast shows a low here of 46 Sat morning, and a low of 52 up in Starke. Must be a warm front coming in. Highs in the 70's region wide with clear skies. I doesn't get any better than that.

John, since you are from Jawjah, Abbeyville is due east of Fort McAllister..
but you might want to bring you rain gear/ uh oops/ fins and snorkle
as  you might get a bit wet before you make the turn southwest

Sign up on this event is not critical. If you're not signed up and decide to go at the last minute, no problem. You may wanna hook up with SiSF for the ride up.

That goes for everyone in Florida. Now if you're from Georgia, you have already missed the deadline for registering, both for this year and next. >:D So sorry. :rotflmao: :)) :beerchug: :motonoises:

Ooh. new Georgia state flag:   :truce:    >:D

This should be a good turnout and a good time. I would suggest bringing a small cooler for a doggie bag, the portions are huge.  :great:

For you "Air Force" types.  Get the sergeant to gently wakey, wakey 2 hours before departure time,  Get tea and crumpets.  Go to the terminal and check in, get more tea and crumpets,  Request clearance for departure.  Wait for departure.  Thank the sergeant for getting u dressed.  Meet you at the shack.

To new members attending the Smackdown; I have extra copies of the Concourier for you, so please get with me sometime during the event to get one. If you're considering membership in COG and I have any left over, you are also welcome to a copy of the last edition. It's a great magazine.
To the SECOG Leadership Team members; I have the Leadership Team shirts now, so please remind me to give you one. Wear it proud...you're all great.
To the SECOG members; the riders that wear the new yellow jerseys with the SECOG Leadership Team logo are the ones that make everything possible when we meet at a ride. Please say hi and give them a thanks you for all they do for us in our area. They represent the various states as AAD's.      Al

The weather looks absolutely delightful after a slightly cool start for Floriduh. High in the mid 70's, clear sky, light winds.

Looks like snow, rain, sleet, tornadoes, locusts and other nasty things for Georgia, north of St George. Any folks up there needing help from the forecasted flood of century up there, let me know. I'll send you some Q.

I heard a ugly rumor about a plan to hire an old Trailways bus with a long flatbed trailer to put the bikes on, and shuttle everyone down to just outside of the town and ride in from there. Sort of like a mini Daytona Bike week. The funny part is they plan on picking up ANYBODY with a scooter along the way (from Savannah) to fill the buss and take home the trophy :rotflmao:

They may even bring a few homeless people along and feed them for the trip, mighty kind of them I'll say. I might even stop by the local Denny's and bring a few 'workers' to even out the count...Nah I ll just ride up with all the Steves

Now for all you Florida members, remember to introduce yourself as a STEVE when you get there. That should really confuse them, beat out by 70-80 Steve's in one place. I am going to have so much fun tomorrow, see you all there

Good seeing everyone. Meeting all the new members that have joined over the last few months and seeing all the gang.....priceless. Congratulations to Tom Sills for winning the $90.00 raffle split. That will likely go into his travel kitty, so we can expect to put up with more of his crap soon. Thanks Reid, for being the great host to this event, and to Jo for her usual great job running the raffle. This always take away her time socializing, but there's nobody that does it better than her.
It was a fun day.                 Al

as one of the n00bs i definitely had an awesome time meeting a few of the other members/riders, i just need to get more "seat time" as i am WAY out of the riding loop from having had a bad hip for 21 years, then finally getting it replaced a few years ago...i had to stop about every 50 miles to stretch some, but man, i do love this bike and very much enjoy the COG!  :great:

Home at last, thank the Lord Almighty, I'm home at last.
Thank to all I had a blast.
Am resting at home with wine in hand, Dawgs on the TV,and wife by my side. Life is good.

I made good time on the way home and arrived about 4:30 in Tampa.  Ahhhh, like you, I kicked my feet back with a nice relaxing glass of wine.  I was surprised at how tired and a bit sore I was.   Anybody have pics?

Had  a really good time yesterday, esp meeting up with friends I hadn't seen for a long time, ones I saw recently and meeting new members & family  or members to be.

To all be sure to check the calender and see when you want to ride out again to meet up w/ us..new members or not.
See you soon!

Had a great time at the SmackDown!  Thanks to all that organized the event, and also those who showed up.  Even enjoyed meeting a few Floridians.  And I found one that wasn't named Steve.

Wayne, great to welcome you as a full member into SECOG. Hope you had a good time at the BBQ, and please try to make more of the events. We normally would have name tags at an event, but this one is just too big to do that. Also, it's a little hard to engage members in conversation when everyone is milling around on their feet. Sitting down for a meal as we do at the Last Blast will bring you closer to getting to know more of us.
Thanks for your support, and we hope you enjoy the ride with us. If there's anything I can do or answear regards your membership, please don't hesitate to contact me. Myself and the AAD's in yellow shirts, we do it all for you.....the members.         Al

Yes Jo, you were gone for some time. We DID do nametags for all the big rides this year ( SE Fall Rally , RWTW, etc). It's just the proper thing to do for the new members, and some of us that sip too much. I put my tent location on my name tag  so in case I'm found wounded, someone can get me back "home".                 Al
