Aug 20 midnight ride in Vegas?
« on: July 23, 2016, 02:19:27 pm »
Anybody interested in a midnight bark at the moon ride around Lake Mead on Aug 20? Should be a mostly full moon and temps should be high 70's low 80's. Maybe end the ride with a BAB (Big Ace Breakfast). Lemme know and I'll put a route together.

This sounds cool. I could probably make this.

Cool!

Now I'll be the pinhead and ask for clarification.

Breakfast will happen after the ride on Sunday morning at 6am?
(so technically we leave at 12:30AM Sunday morning, 30 minutes after Midnight)

Check. I miscalculated the time space continuum on the flux capacitor.

For those folks considering this lemme know for lodging recommendations. Come spend the weekend in Vegas Baby and get a nice ride in. I can offer tent space and floor/couch space with room in the garagio for your scoot. Mayhap a little BBque and a pool soak on Fri night. A bit of wrenching Sat Morn before nappy time?

T minus 9 and counting (unless you factor in the time space continuum T minus 10 ;D). The Chevron meetup has fresh Krispie Kremes and Hi Octane java for those inclined though I suspect C Man will be bringing his own special blend.  :beerchug:

Got some time today to prep the bike for the adventure over to gambling land.

Really looking forward to this night ride with a group of COGgers. I've obviously ridden at night before but never as part of a pack, and on a full moon no less.

I'm in Vegas, or Henderson - don't know which actually. Gonna take me a nap in prep for tonight's Bark at the Moon.

You shoulda BF. I coulda put you on the KiLleR. It was me and Wandring left at around 1215a. Weather was still warm at 90 deg's. About a 3/4 moon diving in and out of the clouds and windy. We hit the lake and the wind died down. Not another vehicle on the road all the way to Overton. Strange sensation at night when the visibility is limited. Felt like I was shagging along and look down and I'm doing 65. Only night critters to worry about here are Jack Rabbit's, coyotes, a possible big horn sheep, wild horse or burro and they are rare. Rode down to Calville bay and showed Keith how the boat launch is now about 300 vertical feet from where it was 15 years ago. On into Overton with the moon showing itself once in awhile illuminating quick peeks of the lake and landscape. Lowest temp on the dash display was 82. Brrrr..... The only other illumination was the high beams eating up the road and glow of the GPS. Stopped in Overton for gas and BS. On through Logandale and onto the 15 So. to Moapa travel plaza and through the valley of fire. On the way up through Valley of Fire we ran across jack rabbit city. I think the condos were on the right side of the road and the bunny bars and casinos were on the left. Now some of these SW jacks can get to the size of large dogs if they are eating good. A couple of them we could have thrown saddles on and road around. I saw one on the side of the road snarling at me and for a bit there I thought I was going to have to break out the Holy Handgrenade (you monty python fans will get it). Keith was riding trail and he said they would wait for me to go by, run across the road and then cross back in front of him. Should have installed those jack rabbit whistles. Through the Valley of Fire State park with a few pucker moments. On the roller coaster roads sometimes your headlight is pointing at the sky and the road dips down and you can't tell where that SOB goes. Time to slow down. Back onto the Lake Shore road heading south we stopped at Rogers Springs. A natural spring just off the road. A spring in the middle of nowhere with a small waterfall. As we rode back south I started suffering from fatigue and getting dingy (Yes, more than normal) having trouble focusing on the road, maintaining a steady speed, making clean entrances and exits. I decided to call it. Stopped and talked with Keith and he said he was feeling the same. Plus he had to ride home later in the day and this would give him the chance to grab some sleep before he returned. So we missed the Dam (Hoover) and Bfast but I think we did the right thing. Rolled into the garagio about 4:15a. It was a nice ride about 200 mile's. 1st ride since getting home from the Nat's for me. Thanks for coming out Keith. It was good to C U again. CU all in Cedar City in Sept.
