Death Valley M&G Spring 2020
« on: December 06, 2019, 12:45:38 am »
Looking at pitching an event in or around Death valley for spring of 2020. Some surprisingly decent rides there and some very cool history to see. What say you SW?

Options are limited to High End Furnace Creek, camping, Stagecoach Casino in Beaty, or just meet for a meal at the Hamburger Stand at the golf course.
I'd be open to about anything.

First round in me and one option would be staying in cabins in Randsburg and take the back way past Ballarat to get there after riding whatever you’d plan for that first day. Regardless..... I’m in.

Looking at Beatty and Amargosa opera house. In park lodging is ridiculous. That road between Trona and Balarat is better suited to a DS bike.

It’s actually in good shape these days and good for some high speeds but like it said I have zero preferences. Make that plan.

Hey Mark you might try the Longstreet just across the state line from the opera house

What month are you thinking of Mark? I've been visiting Death Valley for almost 50 yrs now. They're trying to make it upscale now with the recent renovations at the ranch. Mark

Hey Bosco. How are ya? Early planning stages. Just trying to gauge interest. March or April?

Another possibility is Shoshone Inn:

https://www.shoshonevillage.com/death-valley-lodging-shoshone-inn/

The big issue in DV is restaurants.  There aren't many.  Shoshone has the Crowbar, which is OK.  But Shoshone is in position for good riding.  Drop into DV from the south end, then ride up to Furnace Creek, then over to Panamint Springs, then up to Father Crowley Point, then back to Shoshone.

Of course, Pahrump has places to stay as well, and some OK restaurants.  Heck, if we're staying in Pahrump, we can grill at my place, for whatever that's worth.

Interesting Thanks for the offer CMan. What is the R/T to DV from Pahrump? 50 each way?

From the center of town 61 miles to Furnace Creek.

From Pahrump all the way to Lone Pine, CA and back is about 330 miles round trip.  It's a nice day trip for me.

I'm pencilling it in.

I've been all over the surrounding area, but never dropped into Death Valley -- sounds like an adventure!

I've got a 500-mile ride to get there, but should have ample vacation days to burn that time of year.   :great:

Good evening everyone, I hope you’re well. Not to be selfish or anything but I’m trying to organize my spring. Anybody have any additional information about this ride? I’m planning on riding from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to death Valley because I can and because the SW COG group is awesome and I’d like to hangout with you people again.

Lets look at the month of April. I think that gives us some time between the Bun Cooler and the Nats. Weather should be sweet.
