First Experience With TPMS
« on: June 29, 2019, 03:34:18 pm »
So my riding buddy, that I rescued earlier in the week after some interaction with some deer, texted early this morning about going for a little ride.  Sure I said.  So it's a great morning.  It hadn't gotten hot yet.  We're riding on some brand new asphalt on hwy 62.  Man that new road was nice!  We're on a long straight and I hear a pop kinda like a rock shooting out the side of one of the tires.  WTF was that?  I had the TPMS screen on at the time and thought I should watch for any changes in air pressure.  Sure enough it dropped to 17 lbs in the rear. :-\ :-\  I had just reached a portion of the road that had a wide freshly paved shoulder and decided I better get off the road before things got unmanageable.  I'm here to say that I didn't fear for my life like I did when on my GS1100 and the rear tire picked up a screw and was losing air.  Much different experience for sure.  I hate that the TPMS sensors cost what they do, but I was pretty danged happy they were there and functional.  And yes I had on my aerostich one piece, boots, gloves and helmet.  I have no idea what punctured the tire.  Could only find a small cut that I'll post a pic of shortly.  I went decades with 0 flats.  This is the second one in a couple of years.  Guess I'm going to have to expand my bike tool kit to include a plug kit and compressor.  I thankfully have someone that has told me whenever I need a trailer, just come get it.  Don't have to arrange anything.  Today's ride didn't end the way I wanted, but it could have been lots lots worse without the TPMS!

P.S.  This was basically the same spot (within 50 yards) of a previous breakdown of my GS1100 some years ago.  :truce:
Also, I had my first ride on the back of an 1800 Wing.  Pretty comfy! :great:
