Title: Metzler Roadtec 01
Post by: Throttle 8 on September 05, 2017, 08:28:14 pm
Anyone have any experience with these? I am currently finishing off a set of Angel GT A spec's, that I was exceedingly happy with. Unfortunately, they are backordered at both the discount dealers I deal with in Canada. I can get a set of Roadtec 01 (heavy weight motorcycle) here by the weekend, to spoon on for 4 day ride next week. Not interested in Pr4's or T30's. Interested in the comments from anyone that has been a test mule for these.

I went from the Pirelli Angel GT spec A in 190/55 to the Metzler Roadtech 01 HWM in 190/55 also.  Have had the Metzler for a few hundred miles and am very pleased.  The Pirelli were a bit quicker steering but the Metzler corner just as well and my wife said they ride smoother.  Hope this is some help.

Thanks---these are exactly the type of questions I was looking to answer! :beerchug:

Update: I called my tire vendor and the Angel GT A spec (front) is on backorder until Oct27; so I decided to be a test mule for the Metzler Roadtec 01 (Heavy Weight Motorcycle).
I will update in a few weeks with my initial thoughts and comparison to the Angel GT.

Approaching 1k miles on the Standard rear tire, very happy with the tire in every way- but I did move up to the 55 profile too. Very stable tire, excellent traction- haven't done any heavy rain, except for a light drizzle. Does everything rather well. I have the front which will be going on in the next weeks to match. My previous tire was a PR4 which was badly scalloped at the end of its life. Since I generally ride 2/3k a season, it might be awhile before I really get a good idea regarding wear characteristics. I picked mine up from the Motorcycle-Superstore on EBay during 8/10% eBay bucks/promo for a pretty good price. I put about 4K miles on the PR4- it came with the bike, but I would NOT buy a PR4 over the R01 and as long as I get over 6/7k miles with these, they give me no reason to change my choice for the next set too.

I just picked up a rear Roadtec01 to replace the Shinko 016 I burned off in 6k miles.

I commute 600mi/week so I'll give you an idea of how long they last.

The front will be replaced when I get paid again in a couple of weeks.

I installed the Roadtec 01's yesterday, and put almost 600 km on them today. Here are my initial impressions:
The Roadtec's required much more weight to balance than my previous Angel GT A Specs, which required almost none. The most noticeable difference so far is that the Roadtec's give the steering a much more heavy feeling. With the Angel GT's, the bike almost fell into the corner; and felt much lighter than it's actual weight. I personally loved it--others may like the heavier steering of the Roadtec. The Roadtecs felt planted, but I haven't pushed them that hard yet. Wet weather and mileage evaluations will come later. Initial impressions for me is that it is less impressive than the Angel GT.

my Roadtec 01 rear balanced out with 25% less weight than the previous shinko, which balanced out 30% lower than the tire before it.  So far on a downward trend.

As far as feel, I love it.  Yeah it does feel planted and I like that, I have a very long straight commute with no corners so I like that it feels as solid as it does.  Here's to hoping I get lots of straight line mileage out of it.
