Suspension Improvement/Overhaul
« on: March 19, 2018, 03:54:40 am »
I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Just wondering if anyone knows of an outfit that can do over the suspension front and rear plus I'd probably put on a new set of tires at the same time. My C14 is a 2012 ans it's about time.

I'm considering replacing my C14 with a K1600 or the new wing but I've got the bike modded so nicely (McCruise etc) I'm thinking I might be further ahead to do this instead. Plus I like my C14.

I've run the idea past my local shop and they're good competent people but they simply don't do this kind of thing. If I'm going to spend the money I want it done right.

Many thanks.
Dave

Traxxion is a great choice. Just take the forks off & ship them down. They'll build them to fit you & your riding style. Order up a Peneske shock built for you.

Install & ride.  :motonoises:

You will not regret the Traxxion AK-20 forks and Penske rear shock.  I am an Ohlins fan and have them on my Duc and Miata, but they are no better than the Traxxion/Penske on my C14.  I got a compression adjustment in one fork and a rebound adjustment in the other, also worth it.

is that who did Matt Needham's setup?  I know he's nuts about his.  if you want his number, PM me.  "give you the shirt off his back" type of guy.  I'm SURE he will tell you everything you never wanted to know about suspension.   :rotflmao:

www.SBsuspension.com gets my nod. I just had Ken do the suspension on my wifes bike this past weekend and here is a page dedicated to that event.

Talked with Traxxion today. If I decide to keep the C14 I’ll probably do their mods....Thanks all for the info and recommendations.

Dave  you made the right choice... good luck. If you do it  your going to love the improvement. If you have not thought about it please consider Shoodabeens Mountain Runner Flash too -  That suspension and Steve's flash is a pair made in heaven..   :beerchug: :beerchug:

PS: I used to live on Boulderwood Ave in St.Bonniface  People in the northeast think they get a lot of  snow..  I remember houses buried and just the chimneys poking above the snow.

Ok as some has said,, Matt know his stuff, and he will praise the Traxxion Ak setup, as will i, as im doing my bike now.

Now there are options,, for many budgets. Only for reference, but i have had Bike's done by GMD computrac, Ohlins, and used many Racetech set up's.
And i have to say Bang for the buck Traxxion take the win here.

So here is a break down, ill go most expensive to, the lowest,,
Note here, Penske rear shocks come in many forms the general, is called a double clicker, for around $1000
And that price can go up, or down,
Up would be a triple clicker,,
and down would be a a budget version of the double clicker

First,, as we all have read is the Traxxion AK20 and Penske setup
Come's is around $2000 plus labor and seals.
Can be done in by a average wrench, but not safe for the safe at heart.

Second,, is the Traxxion Action valves, and Penske shock
Price is around $650, Plus rear shock, , So around $1500 to $1700ish depending on rear shock

Third,, is Racetech valves and springs, can be done, for around $450ish for the front, as well as the rear shock can be done also.
Need for special tools, increases, to make this happen.

Forth, is ZX14 forks, and leave the rear alone,
Find your self a set of ZX14 fork add a set of springs, and you have way more Oemish adjustablity,,,

Just an FYI, Im more than willing to help out here,, if you have have any question's, send me a PM, and we can get on the phone,,,
If you are local,, i have all tools needed to do any of theses set-ups

Hope this is helpful  :motonoises:

Really appreciate all the information and suggestions posted here. This has turned into a really informative thread. Before the C14 I rode a k1200s for 7 years and imho is handled superbly. I got really spoiled. My C14 has always felt no where near as confidence inspiring in the handling department and at times almost like it’s hinged in the middle.....strange feeling but the only way I can describe it. After the original tires were just about toast I put on the PR3 and that really improved things. So while I like the bike in general pretty much..... the handling performance needs a good shot in the arm or it’s time for a new bike and there is a good selection of candidates these days. Still got snow on the ground here (Winnipeg)and probably will not get the bike out for 2-3 weeks. I’ll put some miles on then. I like my C14 the way I’ve got it set up and suspension and tires can be done for under $4k Cdn vs $20k for another bike. The bmw demo ride happens here in May and the local Honda dealer will have a demo on the road by then too. I’ll look at them seriously but right now my gut feeling is the C14 upgrades are the way to go as it’s really a darn fine bike.
