I went to the Avon site and they had the 16 in size listed and a clickable "shop" button.  That took me to a vendor by the name of M&M Cycles.  I could select the tire and proceed to checkout.  The tire had a 29% discount on a $246 tire for an out the door price of $173.  Did not complete the checkout as I am not ready to commit until I get the front tire size resolved.    I should put new "sneakers" on my '04 soon.

Can anyone help me with the "best" way to go on the front tire.  110/80/18 or 120/70/18?  Some posts on the forum indicate that the 04 has a 3" wheel and not a 3.5" wheel and Avon's site also indicates the acceptable size of the rim.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Doug

You want the 110/80/18 front.

Apparently there is still a lot of confusion about the availability.
I'll attempt to contact the Avon Rep again and see what I can find out.

I tried looking for the tire at M&M Cycles.
Must have looked it up incorrectly, because M&M came up as a used Cycle part shop?

Chief, if you are successful, please let us know.

Called them up and they are still a few weeks out.  Got to their site via Avon's site.  Here is M&M Cycles link http://www.mandmcycles.com/default.aspx

The area dealer that I have been talking with indicates that the rear tyre is scheduled to be available through his wholesaler on the 11th.  He also indicates the 110/80/18 is not a size he can get.  Yet Avon makes it.  Go figure.

Good luck to all of us.

Doug, (I may have erred?)
I went to the site you posted and only see 17".
The 17" has been available fro some time.

Back in March, I contacted Avon. At the time (According to Avon) the 18 front and 16 rear were supposed to be in the USA in June.
Just before the National I contacted them again and they told me that there had been a hold up on the 16 and 18 because of a manufacturing problem.

Apparently they haven't solved the problem.
Unfortunately I lost and can't find Sukoshi's number. I'll continue to try.

Ride safe, Ted

I have ordered the 18 for the front and it will be coming to my dealer, at least that is what their distributor says.  The 16 in rear was supposed to be available on the 11th but has been pushed back to the 18th.  I will let you know as soon as I get the confirmation.  I urged the dealer to touch base with the distributor again on the front tire and as it turned out they do have the 110/80/18.

I saw what you meant on the M&M site.  I had called them up and got the same story everyone has been getting.  The other sizes are a couple of weeks away.

Ok, thank you.
The last time I talked with Sukoshi I thought she had said it would be later this year.
Apparently (as usual) my pitiful memory was wrong again.
I sure hope you'll have the first of the new tires!
We'll be anxiously waiting to read YOUR RIDE REPORT!

Well, the 23rd of July came and went and no 16 inch Storm 3D shipped.  The 18 inch is in and will wait another week (or more) for the 16.  My dealer indicates that I (they) are third in the national queue so should see it quickly WHEN it arrives.

Patience is a Virtue, Correct?

Fantastic!  Here's hoping it's a better built tire than the Azaro was.  I'll try this tire next.

I just checked on the 16 inch Avon Storm 3D XM at a nearby motorcycle shop that I often get tires from. They checked with their distributor.  The distributor's online site indicated they were supposed to arrive today.  The shop called the distributor and they have not arrived yet. The distributor only expected to get a few tires, so it sounds like initially, the availability in 16 inch will be extremely limited.  :-[

Tomorrow morning my front and rear of Avon Storm 3d tires are being mounted on their wheels.  I plan to install the wheels with these long awaited tires before the day is out.  Weather looks good and a ride will be in order on Thursday if not sooner.  I will be sure to give a first impression.

I have a good dealer with a good connection with the distributor.  But it does appear they are now in the system.

Good News

Avon Storm 3D does exist and I had a pair put on the other day to replace a set of Bridgestones.  Too them for  a ride yesterday and must say they were indeed an improvement.  I only went about 40 miles on different road surfaces; dirt, brand new pavement and more than enough old and ancient pavement.  Low speeds to higher (around 70) all felt good and the Connie felt more sure footed.  In case anyone is wondering I spent about $440 for tires, mounting, balancing, new stems and old tire disposal.   :)

I just bought a new set of tires, and I discovered the folks at Avon must have stopped making Azarros so they could make these new Storm 3Ds.  No Azarros in stock anywhere, so I spent the extra bucks on the 3D.  Hopefully the center is soft enough to wear evenly.

Hi Guys,

I have been running Strom/Azarro combo for a while and it has felt pretty good on the traction. I walked out to get on this morning to find a split in a rear groove on my rear of course the front only has about 1500 miles on it. Rear still had lots of tread left so working a warranty out, but I just ran into they don't have the Azarro so no other radial combo available in their book. The store is checking with Avon about the 3D at my request and hopefully we are going to work something out.

If for some reason I can't get the 3D deal to work out, have any of you run the Storm(radial) front and the Roadrider AM26 (Bias) rear. I know that has always been the worst combo for the taboo of mixing radials and bias to have the radial on the front. Just looking at options here if I have warranty money and no other option through the store. Obviously I don't really want to hurt myself over it, or even end up with a ride that is horrible.

Thanks for your advice.

(Due to a need for a tire while on the road)
My bike currently has bias on the back and radial on the front.
Handles pretty darned good.

(On the C-10's) Many in the club have mixed radials and belted.
I don't recall anyone having an issue.

I would think the radial/radial would be best if your running the curvies at 100%, but for normal playing, you should be ok.

Ride safe, Ted

So far, has it felt at least as good as the Azaro?

Well, when I ran my excited hand over its sexy smoothness I'd say yes, it most definitely felt as good as the Azaro.  ;D Sorry, couldn't resist. After only 100 miles on dry pavement, I can't really say, it turned in nice, but then again my azaro had a 2 inch wide flat spot running down the center when I took it off with the wear bars showing.

I put a full set on early in the Fall and while I only have a couple of hundred miles on them I must say I am pleased.  They replaced a set of Bridgestones and the Avons are quite a bit smoother and have a stable sense to them.  Now the same could probably be said for any new set of tires.  They are sticky as well.  Have a dirt driveway and the dirt sticks like it was glued on.  Not sure if that is a function of "new" or a sign of how they behave on the highway.

With about 5 in of new snow I will pass on them today and for the next 5 months or so.  God, that seems like a long time.

At any rate, glad I put them on.   :great:
