My byline for the rear CT is:

Better traction in all conditions and attitudes. That means all!
Since 2008 and aint''t going back!

Consider re=upping your COG membership book and look at the Summer 2008 Concourier with the article 'Mile Stretching the rear tire'

Look in the archives.
Concourier article:
 Summer 2008

'Better traction in all conditions and attitudes'

You will find many who argue against, and they have no experience in the subject including the mag article.

There are at least 3 C10's and a C14 that are or have used a rear car tire.

So are you running a CT?  if so what has been your first hand opinion?

Shirley you have heard that manufacturer(s) have done this.
 Yamaha at least.

Hey, can we talk about mixing radial with bias too?

 :nananana:

And BMW and HD.  However its always bias in the front radial in the rear. That I know of the UK tire law where they have strict inspections every year, if you have a radial on the front you must have a radial on the rear. If you have a bias on the front, you can have a bias or radial in the rear.

I say go for it and report it, let us know. This reminds me of my dad. He bought a house trailer and had it setup out at the lake. When the guys delivered it they were taking the wheels off. I saw my dads eyes light up and knew something was up. Next thing you know the 17 ply tires were on the station wagon.
I remember it riding a bit rough until the tires warmed up but they worked and dad was happy.
Ah the good old days.

All I know is that one the last ride where I was a few riders behind Dan is that he seemed to have no trouble at all pulling away from us on some seriously windy roads with damp/wet road conditions . I was seriously impressed how well his tire gripped the road and on a couple of spots where my Avon rear broke a little loose on tar snakes . Form what I can tell from the views I got his tire looked like it had a large contact patch with the road even when he had his bike really leaned over .

Hey Mr. Orange,

You shared some pics, but, no details. How did you make the front end work on the C10?

What about running a CT on the front as well?

Not sure I get the reason for running a rear MT on the front...if your still running a MT on the front why not just run the normal front tire or a GW tire?

Okay. Enough chit chat. If you have put a CT on the rear, what size and type did you use?

I'm needing another new rear tire. Dunlops I put on last year is getting close to replacement. It will probably be done with just over 6000 miles on it. I put it on a week before the national last year. Very disapointed!!!! I'm not going to be buying tires every year.

Darkside/Brightside....I don't care. Just give me a rear tire that can give me some tire life/mileage.

I ride with some ST folks, and believe me, that rear tire doesn't bother them going through the twisties.

Thanks...great site as always....John

from what i've been able to dig up on the web the CT size of choice for the C10 (and many Harleys) seems to be 175/75-16.

Now "finding" that size (or any 175-16) in the US is a whole different issue...it seems to be a common "taxi" tire in the UK.

But for the price of the tire and shipping I can easily buy 2 rear MTs.  So if a CT lasts twice as long as a MT then I have gained nothing other than the time of one tire change.  Plus I just switched to GW type tires and am already hoping for twice the miles of a standard C10 type tire.

Time...I mean miles will tell :))

it def seems that finding a car tire here in the USA to fit the c-10 is pretty much grim  ???

Just to muddy the water, you could try a Shinko 777 on the rear. Seems to work fine, looks like it should last about 10-14k miles of not easy riding. Too early to tell yet, I only have about 2500 miles on it. $88 at MC Superstore.

I ran a car tire on an old single cam CB750, a Pirelli radial on a 15" wheel. Seemed to work OK, it was a looooonnng time ago.

Doesn't a 15" Eliminator wheel fit on a C10?

The 1500 and the 1800 take a different size tire, the 18 is quite a bit wider, IIRC.

I'm running 1500GW size Shinkos right now...733/734 Tourmasters...really happy with them but will see how long they last.

By comparison I have a Shinko 777 on my Harley Sportster...7K miles on the rear so far and looks like it will need replacement before I hit 10K.  The Dunlop went a little over 11K.  But it's hard to tell since the tread pattern is different than the Dunlop pattern I've used since 1999...so it's hard to judge the tire wear on the 777 until I go a full cycle with it.

If the Shinko Tourmasters last a good long time I will run those on my Harleys too instead of the 777, assuming they offer a matching front tire (my Harleys have skinny fronts).

The SR733/734 tires come in very limited sizes...don't think they will fit a Harley...

limiting factor for me is probably the front.  not many choices in a matching 21" tire.  the rear is easy for a Harley.
