Other tires
« on: July 12, 2012, 02:19:45 pm »
There seem to be other tires available for the C-10 but I don'e see them mentioned on the forum.
How about the Conti tours for example. Any feedback on them as far as performance or longevity?
Pulled the trigger on a Commander II this morning for the rear of my 99. We'll see how it goes.

My last Dunlop D205 lasted 7950 miles. That sucks. I'm not a slow rider but not the most aggressive either. I would have expected more. I hope the Commander does better.

I have about 1200 Miles on my new set of tires and so far have been floored by the performance over my old ME880's. They just seem to have boundless grip and turn in when compared to my old tires.

I know the ME880's wear like iron slabs but they were so slick unless it was 105 outside I felt like the back and the front could go at anytime.

As for wear, I can not tell any noticeable wear on either the front or the back

Front: Shinko Tourmaster 110-90/18
Rear: Shinko 777  150-80/16

PSI
Front: 40
Back: 45

I have seen both for sub $55 each new/shipped on E-bay from a motorcycle shop in Ohio. "Where i used to order my Shinko 712's from"   :)

IIRC there are only two matching sets of tires in the stock post 94 Concours sizes (120/70-18 front and 150/80-16 rear) and they are the original OEM Dunlop K700 series and the Bridgestone B-45 series.

Anything else is either another size (ME-880 in 1500 GL wing sizes) or a combination of a different front and rear from either the same manufacturer or different manufacturers.

IMHO Big K screwed the pooch on this by not upgrading to 17" front and rear back in 94.

Many of us have converted to the Mean Streak 17" rear wheel (with modifications) and a ZX6 17" front wheel so we can have the best of both worlds. The old girl with new shoes.
