Wing size front tire on a 1988 rim?
« on: March 24, 2015, 10:01:54 pm »
Has anyone ever run a wing size (130/??/18) tire on the earlier connie sized front rims?

I have a friend who is wanting to mount a set of Pilot GT's on his 1988 connie.

I know the rim on the older bikes is smaller (2-1/2" I think) and will pinch the tire some, I'm just wondering if anyone has done it and how did it work out.

Thanks for any input,
Joe

I ran that size once on my '91...it mounted...sealed...and rode OK...

But, it was pinched more than I was really comfortable with...

Bottom line:  I wouldn't do it again...

The Wing size tires are designed for a 3" wide front rim, while the 1988 rim is around 2.5".  The tire will definitely be pinched.

Not to mention it will  handle more like a tank.
Normally aspirated engines have perpetual turbo lag

I did it on my 86 and got away with it.
Yep, pinched looking.
I was new to a Connie, but it seemed to handle ok to me..
