+1, but I did not start out riding that way... I lived in NY until I was 28 y/o (where helmet use was mandatory, and the would occasionally ride with t-shirt, shorts, & sneakers (never flip flops tho) You would have thought those younger years of ridin
 
I know I probably shouldn't but I do ride in tee shirt and jeans when really hot. However, I don't move the Conk farther than putting it on the center stand without having a lid on. It is not justification but 90% of my riding is over 70mph in traffic and at that speed I am really more concerned about broken backs, compound fractures, and becoming a hood ornament. :8o: Respectfully Yours! In '05 got run off the road without any gear except my 3/4 helmet, goggles, and gloves. I got skinned pretty good from my armpit to my toes (literaly), one abrasion later abscessed. Holes were worn in my Levis at the knees. My shoes came off. My goggles were scratched, but there were no marks on my skid lid. I also got broken ribs, but it is likely I would have gotten them even with a MC jacket since I hit a concrete curb. However, if I HAD been wearing a MC jacket, pants, and boots, I probably would have come out somewhat better off. Maybe my lung wouldn't have been punctured. I certainly would have saved myself some nasty abrasions. Why didn't I have my MC gear on? I had ONLY gone to get gas at a station which was less than a mile away, and didn't figure I needed anything but a legally required helmet--so I wore my 3/4 not my modular. I got too hot this summer to wear my Olympia. I'm in the SE after all and 96 degrees even with generous venting is too much. Rather than abandon my gear, I bought the Bionic S2 armor from Alpinestars, along with elbow and knee armor. There have been a couple of occasions when riding home at night that I was getting chilly, so the armor is definitely a summer only gear choice. The knee armor though is a year round keeper. It's thick, tough and fully articulated and since statistically, knees are the most common injury on a bike, a little extra insurance isn't a bad deal.
 
When I crashed my C14 in the ditch on May 16th going to the Bun Cooler in Idaho and did my best impression of Superman, I truly believe if I was only wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and a 3/4 helmet, BTW it was 95 degrees that day,I probably wouldn't be writing this right now. I did however sustain 4 broken ribs, a broken clavicule, and a broken shoulder blade, but not a scratch. It's just a calculated risk, riding without ATTGATT. I confess that last year, when I went back to Canaan Valley, I thought I was going to pass out from the heat and humidity of July in the eastern half of the country. I got powerful sick with bronchitis there and beelined home to Oregon in the heat. At times I was without my riding coat and pants and wore a half helmet I had brought along. My bad! I know it. The bare minimum helmet AND both gloves. Prefer boots and a long sleeved shirt to keep the sun off the skin, too. When I'm going for a long ride I'll suit up with mesh jacket and mesh over-pants. I would prefer a "Stich" or like but cost and heat kills that deal. I keep looking for something better and YEAR round. I'm MOTGMOTT- most of the gear most of the time :) . As I commute daily to work, riding has to be practical for me, and I can't afford the one-piece 'Stich, so it's jacket, boots, gloves, helmet 90% of the time when I ride. When I do fun rides and trips I am 100% geared (as I was for my recent flight into a hay field) and do feel much better about it. Steve K.
