Since Miss Tourmaline is stored for her long winter nap, I have been searching out interesting things. The chase for the world land speed record occurring in the mid 1960s is a fascinating story. It peaked my interest that the Spirit of America, driven by Craig Breedlove, was classified as a motorcycle at the time since it ran on 3 wheels. The competition between teams is a remarkable story. Another crazy fact is that Art Arfons only had sponsorship for the wheels and tires. The remaining car was built in his garage for around $10K.

This was a time when people did not know the meaning of the word "can't" and just made things happen. We sure could use this brand of spirit and tenacity in our country today! I am hopeful that this spurs some interesting discussion. Enjoy the video linked below!

The Jet Car Battle of Bonneville

I met and (kinda) got to know Dennis manning many years ago at the time he set his World Speed record with BUB.
At the time I had my own dyno and was attempting to build my own set of headers for a C-10.
He answered my questions and talked to me much like he talks to this reporter.
He is a pretty down to earth guy. But SMARTTTTT!!
