Clipped a large piece of metal in Atlanta fri morning traffic at 6:04. Feb 10, rainy, dark, cold. Left work after working 3rd shift & got into the PeachPass express lane on Interstate 85 north of pleasant hill. Just caught a glimpse of something big in my lane and started to go left. Wham! lots of noise, bike got loose, warning lights lit up.
No way I’m getting over 8 lanes in fri rush hour traffic, pulled in the clutch & hit the kill switch & let her coast down. Had a buddy pick me up & left the bike next to the left wall of 85.
Cut the BW header, busted up the bodywork, cut part of the brake pedal off & the curb feeler on the right peg. Busted fittings & stuff off the side of the engine block. Ronnies highway peg bracket is probably the reason I still have a right foot.

I almost had a final destination ending. Got stopped, went to put my feet down and almost fell over to the right side back into interstate traffic. Everything was covered with oil, clothes, bike, boots. Wet road didn’t help. Finally got the kickstand down and leaned over on it. Another 08 C14 was purchased the next fri. I took most of my stuff off. I been swapping good my parts onto the new bike. Progressive took care of it very quickly.
To add insult the progressive wrecker driver dropped the bike trying to load it after refusing my help. I ended up riding it up for him.

Did you ask the price to keep what's left? Sometimes it is cheap, sometimes not. It's hard watching someone drop your baby.

Wow, that's some ugly damage. The important thing is you're OK. And I'm mighty impressed you're back on the horse, as it were...(y)

That’s scary — and glad you’re physically OK. That kind of thing is why I started skipping or delaying rides to work after a 3-days weekend — too many kids bikes, coolers, beach chairs and other crap on the road (live in a popular beach community).
Hope it works out in your favor.

They wanted $1600 to keep the bike. I thought about it, but I decided not to. I put most of the stock parts back on before the ins adjuster looked at it. Progressive was reasonable on the aftermarket stuff i left on the bike.
My new to me replacement bike has half the miles 33k but rougher cosmetically. All the trim that needs replacing has been ordered in Carbon Fiber except the glove box parts. A-Tech in Japan has to make the carbon fiber parts & they estimate shipping out 7/24. I just hope it 2023 🤞🏻

$1600 wow! What did they say your bike was worth before the accident?

Ins paid out $4,552 for the bike & $740 for assessories with 62k miles on it.

$1,600 was too much considering the engine is blown, not counting the busted block. The engine was pumping oil pressure out the side. I was just a hair under 5,000 rpm in 6th gear when I hit it.
It was making very bad sounds when I hit the kill switch. Cranked it in the driveway to get it to the rollback & top end is raising hell. Lost my butt on Mich Road 6GTs, new rotors, EBC pads i just installed less than 2k ago.

I am happy you walked away from that serious wreak. You had the perfect storm going on: Rain/Cold and Darkness. Wow !! The Connie continues to demonstrate that it is a "battleship" on two wheels. I have seen many wreaked bikes on this forum and the "Connie" has protected the rider because of its design. Regarding future mitigation, I would look at all the gear you use. I am looking at the airbag vests and a go-pro type of camera....Sean

OH MAN! Glad you’re ok after that. I ride that section both directions when I ride out to VA. Riding out there my WORSE fears are 1st, items in roadway. Dodged a ladder one time. Second are the drivers that like to whip over into the left HOV or PeachPass lane. So far still knocking on wood. Again glad you OK.

This is the 2nd time I’ve hit something in the PeachPass lane at high speed. There’s a ton of debris on Atlanta interstates. Fast, bumper to bumper traffic doesn’t leave much time to dodge stuff unfortunately.

I spend very little time in the middle lanes these days when it busy out there. I am either in the fast lane or the slow lane unless I have good forward visibility. Like you said... to much stuff laying out there not including the moving weekend at the end of the month... errant pillows and cushions are seen more than they should be.

So just to be clear, it was rush hour, 8 lanes of Atlanta traffic, rainy, cold, and dark...and you were just under 5000 rpm in 6th gear when you hit that metal scrap? Wouldn't that be over 100 mph? Yikes!
