COG is in need of a new Area Director for the South West area. We need someone in the club to step up and volunteer to take over this position. It has been vacant for too long. If you are disappointed about the level of activity and number or rides in the Southwest area, this is your opportunity to do something about it. If you don't want to do it yourself, but know someone who you think would make a good AD, then you can nominate them. And if you would like to get involved but don't want to be the Area Director, you can volunteer to be an Assistant Area Director (AAD) and we always need more AAD's.

The Area Director is responsible for working with his AAD's to coordinate activities in their area, and he/she will also be one of the seven voting members on the COG board and will have influence on the overall direction and activities of the club as a whole.

Some of the best riding in the US is located in the Southwest area. California, Colorado, and Arizona all have some of the best motorcycle roads in the US. We need to get more rides and activities going in these areas.  Several folks have complained about the lack of a COG National Rally in California. Here is your chance to do something about that. Please consider volunteering to help COG fill this important role.

By the way, we would love to see one of our newer/younger generation C14 members take this position. We need to get some new blood into this organization and "pass the baton" from the older C10 riders over to the next generation of COG members/riders.

All COG officers/directors must be a COG member in good standing, and all COG Executive Officers must keep current AMA membership.

If you have any questions, you can contact the COG Executive Director (Ken Ford) about this position at:

Step on up, don't be shy.  The Area Director (AD) is one of the key positions within the Concours Owners Group.  He/She is typically elected by the members (and is responsible to them) in the area they serve.  The AD is one of seven voting members on the executive board, and as such can affect the general “flavor” and “character” of the organization. It is a very rewarding volunteer position, and is an excellent was to meet many of our great members.

Here is an idea of what AD duties can include...
  • The AD is the ‘facilitator’ for the Area Team.  He/she handles recruiting capable Assistant Area Directors, who do MOST of the work in running the area.  Any sector may need an AAD: a city? A state? or even just a part of a city or state may warrant its own AAD.  It is through the AADs that that the activities of the organization takes place.
  • Individual budget responsibility for the area and overall group (board) participation for the entire budget.
  • Foster good will and interest in the organization with both membership and non-members alike.
  • Provide guidance for rides and rallies based on COG Ride Guidelines.
  • Host at least two overnight weekend rallies per year. (accomplished indirectly through AADs and members)
  • Publish an area newsletter, as needed. (done by a member with publishing skills using material from the area staff)
  • Write an area report column for The Concourier, the national magazine newsletter (quarterly), highlighting the area’s activities. .
  • Be available for executive decision making. This occurs via Skype conference calls, but also email.

Thanks for pushing this issue to the front again Fred.  It would really be nice to have a strong SW area again.  I have been working with the SC for some time now because it has the same issues of low number of events and little leadership.  An area can be resurrected and become a strong and enjoyable area again.  We all want the SW to be strong so we can come visit and enjoy some of the great areas to ride with you.

How many hundreds of thousands of dollars does it pay, maybe I'll relo...  ;)

I would be willing to take the job, with a few conditions.

Please send an email to Ken Ford and let him know that, as Steve indicated in the thread above.
