Bob Rainey's I-Hop ride

This isn't a ride to check out the old breakfast place that is trying its hand at burgers now. This is a ride about hopping around the San Juan Islands via ferries.

Good food, good people, and Bob opens his doors to anybody that needs a place to stay. He says he has plenty of room.

I will add more as I find out more. I'm hoping Charlie or others have been to this ride and can hype it up. Bob talked about the ride at the Bun Cooler and it sounds like a great event, Jami looked at me while he was talking and asked if we could go.

It is now on the calendar now, get registered so we can get a good head count for Bob.

Thanks Tom I am registered  and ready  to  ride. :motonoises:

I am excited  to go on this one it was held in high regard by many I talked with at both the Bun Cooler and on the Longest Day Ride. Heard Bob shows old B motorcycle movies for the laughs. The ride  Explores the islands and then joins  The Oyster Run  In Anacortes.

If the IHOP needs some hype I can do that. The IHOP is a hoot. Bob has the biggest and cleanest garage on Lopez Island and 200 motorcycle movies. We watched a couple of movies before calling it a day. We learned a new line on the last IHOP with one gal telling another to "go poof her hair" while watching the Zombie motorcycle chicks or something like that.

Those who live on the island know Bob by his garage. No Joke! Most guys will stay in the garage on cots over night with the motorcycles. I didn't hear any complaints. Bob cooks breakfast. Bob will have taken care of the Ferry tickets and everyone hits the Ferry's as a group. you will get to visit some interesting points and places. One stop is a place to get snacks/coffee and hang out where John Wayne parked his PT boat. Another quick stop is to look at an highly unusual object on an Island.

This also the same weekend as the Oyster Run for the cruisers. There will be lots to see on the way home if you go through downtown Anacortez. Which I don't recommend if in a hurry. After all it is the biggest motorcycle rally in the PNW.

So come to the IHOP and join the list of the PNW elite. Seems like, won't mention any names someone found out you have to put glue on the string plug prior to installation to get it to stay in the tire and plug the hole....

I just placed my order for one seat in Bob's Garage.  The IHOP is a great time for a gathering.  i have one correction for Tim's comments, though.  Bob will provide a stove and a toaster as well as a frying pan a other cooking tools, but the success or failure of your breakfast is completely up to you and your cooking skills.  Bob a'int gonna cook it for you.  You have to come to my house for that kind of treatment.

Man, I so want to do his run. There ain't no mo better folk. Still thinkin'.  :beerchug:

I've got a spare bedroom if you need a landing pad.

See now  Commit and quit teasing us.... ;)  :motonoises:

Like Charlie I too have a spare bed and a landing pad. My landing pad is less congested with few vehicles in the landing area.  ;) Plus I have better roads.  ;)

Quick route planning today. 3 days up, 3 days back along the OR coast (from Eureka CA). Downloaded the ferry schedules which made my head hurt. With the exception of Charlie, Grants and Tim's lodging offers (and thank you all my NW Friends) is everything camping at Bob's? Do I need my tent and bags and such? Big Erma pad and stove? If so may camp on the way up and back (though it is pretty entertaining to see my big butt getting up from the ground in the morning. Evenings are no problem as gravity takes over). Around 3k there and back not including riding the event. Not committed yet but being talked into it.

Bob's garage and a cot would more than likely be ample lodging. Bob keeps his garage very tidy. The garage is large and not a normal home garage. The bikes sleep in the garage too and no one is crowded.

Better look that up again. Eureka to bobs is about 700 miles one way along the coast. If you go around the Olympic peninsula it may add 50 or a little more.

I get it now. You are entering the coast at Eureka not starting there. It’s a great ride.

Ahh to have that magic teleportation device to magically move so that I do not have to suffer the straight roads of Nevada and California desert routes and be delivered to the wonderful coast. Hey, scientists, I'm waiting here!  :)) :)) Eh, no pain no gain.

It is looking like I won't be able to make it this year :'(

What???you have be more careful at your age. Hope you recover quickly. Back problems is about the only thing I've been able to avoid so far or so it seems.

Yep, Looks between 1400 and 1700 each way.

And?
Sadly no mo PTO. I burned 2 weeks on the OtP escort and Kerrville Nat (which was truly worth it IMO). I would need at least a week. However I am in planning mode for next year as this looks like a true blast. And I love hanging out with my NW peeps. You guy's be safe and have a great time. Give Bob a smooch for me.  ;)

we had 9 a m ferry tickets, got them changed this morning to 5pm.  excited to be going this year.  A little rain won't hurt anyone.  safe travel everyone.

                                                              :whoo:

Alas, I will be working this weekend.  Apparently poor planning on someone else's part does constitute an emergency on my part so they can get their parts.

Bob does this every other year, so you've got two years to get it sorted out.  If you come up next year we'll have to do something special.

I hope it's all Over Time to ease the pain a bit.

                                                              :whoo:

Andy and I are meeting at the "Brown Lantern" 412 Commercial Ave in Anacortes, at 3pm for a quick bite before hitting the ferry. If you are interested. Tim

Well I am waiting  :??: didn't get to go so I want to at least see pictures and hear stories  :great:

Yeah, well the only story you will hear is a sad one. I was coming down Bob's drive way with my feet down which means I was using the front brake. Bob has rocks which make up his drive way. It is somewhat steep. Front wheel locked and down we went. Broke the right mirror and scratched some paint on the center fairing and right bag. Lower fairing was scratched up too. Mirror was fixed with you guessed it....duct tape. Bob had some in black so we used that.

I can say I have successfully gone up and down Bob's drive before and had no problems doing so after the incident. Lesson learned, keep your feet up and use the back brake. Remember mine are not linked. I was a little disappointed the ABS didn't kick in but I was going too slow.

That said, the tip over switch did not activate and kill the motor. Makes me wonder if the tip over switch is a one time use only.  :??: Since this pile up happened in front of everybody, it didn't take long for someone to hit the kill switch. About the only thing I hurt was maybe my pride.  Oh well the new paint job lasted almost two years.

I should back up a bit too. Getting to Bob's house was an adventure. Someone's GPS was a little slow and after missing a turn the alternate route was not always on pavement. Did you know a C14 can be an Adventure Bike as long as the road is not down hill and rocky?  Going up an incline on wet leaves and pine needles is also a challenge.

Bob had salad, chips and chilly waiting for us. If you went hungry or thirsty it was your fault...plenty of cold bottled water to be had.  ;)

The actual IHOP was fun for most but we discovered that the State Ferry ticket employees are not all on the same page when it comes to bikes with side cars and Spider's. Are they a motorcycle or are they a car?  Everybody got on the Ferry but not always at the same time. Other times we got to go on the Ferry as a group. We had some rain. Not real bad and I was hesitate to put on my Frogg Troggs Pants. This is because I would have to take off my lace up boots which is some what a pain. I did finally put them on and wouldn't you know it the sun came out and the roads dried off.

We almost got to see whales. We stopped at the area where Pig Wars started. Unfortunately Mona was not to be seen. Over all it was a good time. It was a good time to get to know some fellow COG members much better. We really do have a great group of guys and gals. I plan on making the next one in two years. But dang, these IHOPS are sure hard on my Connie. Tim

Oh and Grant, I'm not a camera guy but we have a couple who are. On this trip you had to be careful that you weren't doing something stupid that might have been captured. I would imagine someone will post pictures.  I might add Bob did a great job of herding us cats. Bob was the taskmaster who somehow managed to get us going in the right direction at the right time so we didn't miss any of the Ferry's.

Sorry to hear that Tim. What on your mirror broke? If it broke different from mine and I have a good part it's yours  :great:

Some of the scratches buffed out but it looks like I'm going to buy some paint. The part of the mirror that broke is the pivot point. The bag looks pretty good actually except one deep scratch.

In that case I think I have what you need  :) send me a PM and I will get it sent off to you :motonoises:

I have just a few pictures.  will try to figure out how to post tomorrow.
We had a great time.  a bit of rain on sat., not much, thanks to Tim and his raingear.

Wouldn't you know it but the r/h mirror in my color is on back order. I might have to glue the innards of my broken mirror back together.

Ebay is your friend....

Probably right but have not seen a red R/H mirror for a 09 yet on flea bay. I got the cover off the mirror and will get some fresh ABS glue. It looks like I can fix it enough to work for the ride for science. I would much rather sit behind that large windshield I bought from you  :) Than go nakkid.  Mirror is due in towards the end of the month.

I have a few good pictures.  If I could send them to someone so they could be post them here, I would appreciate it. :??:
