Can't get coil out!

Don’t have a ground-breaking solution, however, would resist urge to pry with a tool.

#3 is the bugger one, I always just get leverage by getting my body as close as I can, above and pulling up.

Hope it helps, if nothing else, to know it’s not just you and repeated rotating and persistent lifting the coil will release.

Use some rubber lubricant when installing.

Took a break and went hunting. Then went back and tried again. Finally got it. I used silicone grease on the plug side last time. Not concerned about next time😃

Clean the outside of the boot real well. I use silicone spray lubricant on it and wipe it all down with it real good before reinstalling. The ridges on the outside of the stick coil will trap dirt and grit and need to be cleaned off thoroughly.

It's also a good idea to blow out the hole with compressed air BEFORE you remove the plug to get any loose dirt out of the spark plug well. I also replace the head-hole gaskets anytime I remove the valve cover, and make sure they are properly centered after you reinstall the valve cover. Stick your finger down the hole and feel them and make sure they are in place properly before you tighten down the valve cover bolts.

Thanks Fred. My bike sees a fair bit of gravel and it shows it under the plastic. The boots did have grit in them do I will blow them out well. I have been blowing the motor off as I go. Thinking about wiping down all I can reach with soapy water.

I would definitely wipe all down, especially the rubber blanket. With head cover off, you’ll be reaching in there plenty, you don’t want to be knocking dust / dirt in there.

The first time I did #3 it was not coming out for anything. Finally I used a plastic dash tool to gently and carefully apply leverage (never recommended but I tried everything). After the first removal and a good cleaning I can remove it just like the rest.

Good Luck!

Had to do this with 3 of 4 of mine when I took my '12 apart. Used a plastic tent stake - pointed end under the connector portion of the coil. Gently prying "down" - rather than UP - got them right out.

Thorough cleaning and coating with white grease should help for the next time.
