I did my first Dog Days last year and enjoyed it. The roads were superb. And the restaurants and discussions were great.  Thanks for setting this up again along with the fair warning about the rooms.  :motonoises: :great:

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself! Staunton is by far our favorite destination for a weekend getaway.
Something for everyone. Great riding, a very affordable motel in a great downtown setting and wonderful places to eat!
BOOK THOSE ROOMS.
jason

I booked a room for three nights. Thur - Sat.
Desk Guy could not change the reservation name to me, so still under gsjay.
When he asked for credit card info, I told him to keep it under that name also........................                                                                                                                            just kidding  :nananana:

Will be in WV the week before and wind up in Staunton for DD. Looking forward to it!

I got tired of the winter hanging on, so I headed down to Staunton for a long weekend of riding. I mapped out new routes and for the ride down hugged the eastern side of of Skyline Drive from Front Royal to the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway. What beautiful countryside, and twisty roads.  For the ride back, I took the ultra divine route 250 into WV and headed up to Senaca Rocks. Jason knows all of this of course, which is why this place is his stomping grounds.  :motonoises: Bob says hi.

I'm thinking about a run to Staunton this weekend..............

Anyone want to come along?

Saturday/Sunday?

Well I did indeed run to Staunton. Great weekend trip. The routes from my home to Staunton are just wonderful!
Staunton looks good. Flowers blooming and spring is springing for sure. It was 85 Degrees.

I did start to see beginnings of the Pipeline Project. They have a huge pipe depot just south of Seneca Rocks.

This project is taking LOTS of Motel rooms all summer in Staunton. So BOOK THOSE ROOMS ASAP, you can always cancel if you can't make it.

Room booked Thursday thru Sunday.  The direct phone number for the HJ hotel front desk is 1-540-886-5330.  Cant wait to ride down there again.  :motonoises:

I'm in!  :great:

Along with Boosthound (Paul) --- as you know two VERY dependable guys  :)

So it looks like the Four Horseman of COG will be riding again!

This room block will be let go soon...………..

If you're coming you need to get your room booked ASAP.

I think we have 17 people signed up at this point.

jason

Well, Clem, it looks like excessive self-flagellation has clouded your judgment.

FYI, my moniker, "Boosthund" (if that's the one you were referencing), is part of a phrase playfully describing man's best friend, taken from James Joyce's "Finnegan's Wake."

I hope that with this information you can give your hand, and its love object, some much needed rest.

Best regards,
Boosthund.

Anyone else need a room for this event you better call ASAP...………….

Rooms are tight this year in Staunton due to a pipeline project.

We were there is weekend and had a blast! Great riding, great town, cold beer!

Jason

I don't have any Route Sheets to hand out for this event...……..

I did provide some links to maps earlier in this post.

Do any of you that are coming have routes to share? Can you post here or bring some printed copies?

I'll be getting in Thursday evening.............

jason

I know of at least 5 also coming in Thursday, including me.  Sorry I don't have any day routes from the hotel.  I do have routes coming into and leaving Staunton from home.

Looks like 20 registered...……….

I think this event should be drawing twice this many attendees!
Am I missing something that we're not getting a better turnout?
Should we change something next year?

Let’s review the past experiences to see what can be improved.
-have an awesome ride down on great roads to Stuunton with good friends.
-eat a lot of good local food and drink some really good local beer.
-ride the next day one more awesome roads if that’s possible.
-hang out in the parking lot/lobby and talk about a bunch of stuff with old and new friends
-repeat the last three items
-repeat the last four items.
-ride home on new and great roads with friends.

What needs improvement?

Getting ready to depart... might sound early but am riding up to DC (for work) and will head down to Dog Days from DC on Friday afternoon (perhaps riding with Boosthund).

Would say "see you in Staunton" but of course until we meet up with Roger 123 and Roger's Close Personal Buddy I won't have any big purple lines to follow... Could end up anywhere!

I put a route together from the HoJo's to Highs Diner and back.

Email me at someror@gmail.com and I can send it to you.

High’s is under new management / owners.
Sadly, is just not the same.
Been eating there for 15 years and for the
first time I was disappointed.
I hope they improve.
In the meantime, I’ll be checking out
the Gateway.

Have you seen this ?????

We're going to eat well.

Two things were making it a challenge to get away to VA for four days.  Then the biggest issue hit, which is falling behind on three major projects with deadlines, so in the end I'm blaming it on work.  I'm out.

Sitting on BRP south of Staunton at the moment. Sunny and fair weather clouds. Been dodging rain And camping pretty successfully since Monday. Route planning has been fluid and flexible. Have run 33, 39- was just in Goshen pass. Come on down!

I’ll be heading out in and hour or two, I decided to say F it and take today off as well, was planning on leaving work around noon anyway.

Taking 60 out to the Amherst area then will work my way north through the forrest on any crooked little dirt roads that I can find.

Well despite the wet weather I think everyone would agree that we had a great weekend! (except Dave)............

I think there where about 21 in attendance.

Next years dates at Aug 15, 16, 17...........
Same location.

Full report in the newsletter.
