Hi Kids,
We have a pizza and suds Joint slated for lunch for February SAT 22nd, 2020  12:00 PM.
We can have anchovies and hot peppers on one of the best pizzas around.

I am off to Australia tomorrow for a visit, so hope to see all there come Feburary.

I may be away that weekend, ugh. One of my favorite pizza joints. The Italian Bomb; Bacon, Sausage, Pepperoni, Mushroom, Onion, Pepper, Garlic is the dabomb! Sorry but Pepe's still has the best clam/clam casino pie.
Suds are cheap frugal there too.

Great idea on the venue, I was thinking about doing a warmer weather meet and eat there. My idea was to meet somewhere near the northern Park entrance of East Rock Park in Hamden and take a quick trip up to the summit for a panoramic view of New Haven and Long Island Sound then go to Modern before the noon crowds arrive.

Anybody that has driven down I-91 to New Haven has probably seen the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument on top of the summit to your right side of I-91.
Worth a ride up to the summit for anybody that hasn't been to the park on this meet and greet. The southern road out of the park into urban New Haven with a couple of lefts and rights gets you onto State St close to Modern Pizza.

No admission fee, but the road may be closed if there is snow the night before or icy conditions, a couple of nice switchbacks for the ride to the summit but I imagine late February most will be in cages. The summit road is only open on Sat, Sun and Holidays in the winter.

CT website link to the park: https://www.ctvisit.com/listings/east-rock-park
To see how close by I am to the venue, the tip of the monument on the linked site main picture is just about touching Sleeping Giant State Park and the "head" of the lying giant is a couple of stone throws away from my home.

Parking in Moderns parking lot is minimal but at noon you may be able to find a spot. There is non parking meter street parking and a municipal lot 2 blocks south of Modern on opposite side of street. PS, bring your street smarts with you, lock up, hide valuables and an occasional panhandler may be encountered, not usually this early in the day though. Should be crevices in Moderns parking lot to squeeze in a bike back by the kitchen/takeout entrance area if no spots are available.

Looking at that linked picture's northerly View of the summit doesn't do it full justice, the southern view from the summit of the city and Long Island Sound including Long Island on a clear day is very nice too.

hi all, from riding around the south east of Australia, nothing like doing 5000km on a softtail Harley and a Yamaha road liner 1900. To appreciate the conny. Cant wait to catch up with friends over Bobs two favorite Pizzas. I'm in for the clam pie.

Hope to see you all there.

Andy

See you there.

I agree with Bob C... the Italian Bomb is one of Modern's tastiest.

Web site registration is working.  Be sure to register. Andy will need an approximate headcount to be sure they reserve a large enough table. The joint does fill up for lunch.

Ok two more attendees, signed up.
Pizza, yum.
Not sure if we are riding, SO is not fond of colder temps but we'll see .

After I signed up a friend called and needs help moving Saturday. I talked him into helping him in the morning so we aren’t riding but should arrive by noon.

did ya see the weather report for sundaY. lets ride. I think i will be doing a couple hour ride before lunch, going to head up 202 way from newtown, unless anybody wants to meet up some where else.

See ya there - I'll be in the cage...  ECU has been extracted from the bike.
