Handle Bar Risers - Install

Fenris38

Tricycle
I got my '04 Connie from a friend and he had the Risers but they are not installed. How do I install them? Does anyone have the instructions for the 1-1/4inch risers that fit under the stock handle bars? I found the kit online and I have all the parts for the kit, but no instructions. :confuse: 04 Concours (Fenris) (mostly stock)

It is easy. Remove covers over bolts holding bars at base. Remove 4 bolts holding bars to triple tree thing. Pull up and see how much slack there is in the lines. Might be enough to just put the blocks in and your done. If one line is tight... most times its the chock line... Try clipping some ties or running it out of a keeper in front I think. Most times this is enough. Now using the longer bolts that came with the kit replace the four stock bolts, risers and bars back on the bike. Test with the bike running and turning the bars both ways to be SURE nothing is getting to tight. ---------------------------------- I will answer any question. It is up to you to figure out if I should have.

That's how I envisioned it, but was not sure if there was anything that I needed to watch for. Good advice on checking for binding before test ride. I probably would have installed and ridden (I usually learn things the hard way). Thanks. 04 Concours (Fenris) (mostly stock)

I don't trust myself enough to not test what I've done thoroughly before riding. I am fully aware of my capacity to screw things up. ;)

Also - With some brands of risers (they all look the same... the style you have... are made by lots of different folks)... some don't fit very well. And getting them to fit can be a hassle. And removing the gas tank, and re-routing lines may also be needed (it was for me). Anyway, it might be a simple bolt-on with minimal hassle... or it might be more time consuming... but in the end, they all look good and work great!!

As Bob stated once you have the risers on check for free play by turning the bars to full lock position left and right to see if you have any restrictions. C-stand the bike and weight down the rear so the front is off the ground and check. Also check in neutral with the engine running to see if the idle increases. If so check the routing of the throttle cables to get the most length out of them. This is an easy thing to do. AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks!
