How to clean out the gas tank?

What's the best way to clean out a gas tank? I'll be rebuilding the carbs soon and want to make sure the gas tank is nice and clean. I was thinking of: 1) Removing the tank. 2) removing the petcock. 3) swirling the gas inside 4) dumping the gas out via the hole left from the petcock 5) repeating 3 and 4 Are there any additional steps? I would be interested in a better way. I have done what you say here and its a pita. Still you never feel that you got it clean either. ---------------------------------- I will answer any question. It is up to you to figure out if I should have.

If you had rust in there, one of the methods to remove the rust before coating is to place a bunch of nuts or bb's in and swish it around. If you're so inclined, might want to try that. Also, you could try rinsing using a bottle of dry-gas (you know, the winter stuff) to bind and remove any water in there. Just some thoughts....
