Left Mirror Drooped Today

I hadn't noticed my left mirror was really loose but today on a ride up to the St Louis area, it was crazy windy and the left mirror ended up "impotent" by the time I got to my destination. It was so irritating and basically dangerous not being able to use the mirror. Whats the easiest fix for a drooping mirror? I read something about having to take out the glass to access the hardware? How does a person get the glass out without breaking it> Any tips, tricks or miracle fixes are appreciated as always. Doug Wood DeSoto,IL AMA#1090587
