Spring Rally in the Valley - April 26-27, 2019

Hey, keep your calendars clear for the 2019 SECOG Spring Rally in the Valley taking place April 26-28 in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. This event will be hosted at the Maggie Valley Inn and Conference Center. Maggie Valley offers lots of reasons to bring that significant other along for the trip. They will have plenty to do on and/or off the bike, AND they get to meet some of the finest people in all of COG-dom. Heck, they might even want to join themselves!

More information and online registration is available at:
https://cog.memberize.net/clubportal/EventDetail.cfm?clubID=1328&EventID=255205&mo=4&tDate=%7Bd%20%272019-04-09%27%7D

The Maggie Valley Inn is the Rally host. The location has a restaurant, swimming pool, and outdoor Tiki Bar. Refer to COG when you register and get special rates of $79/night for reservations of three nights or more, and $89/night for reservations of two nights or less.

There are also a number of camping options close by. Two nice options among the many available are:
Winngray Campground  26 Winngray Ln, Waynesville, NC 28785  winngraycampground.com
Pride Resort & RV Campground  4394 Jonathan Creek Rd, Waynesville, NC 28785 pridervresort.com

And let's not forget the area attractions which include the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum, the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee Indian Reservation (and Harrah's Casino!), among others.

That is all for now folks! Keep an eye out for future additions to this thread.

HOPEFULLY..... I'll get to go to this.......

I've had (and still do) just too much going on over the last few months/years.....  :(

Tom, thanks for your efforts, this should be a great venue for our Spring rally. Hotel rates are reasonable and there is a restaurant, bar & Tiki bar onsite. There is a grass area in the back of the hotel that has picnic tables where we can hang out as well.

Not our usual camping rally but we felt the need to mix it up a bit for our Spring rally, more on that in a future thread. Not that I don't like camping but do prefer the amenities that a hotel can provide.

Just get in the car and drive up. Or better yet, you can ride behind Jean. :nananana:

I know some non-emergency medical transport guys here who have a bunch of ambulances, who haul "seasoned citizens" around. Medicare pays for essential transportation for medical treatment. You might deem attending a rally "essential" mental health treatments.... Just trying to be helpful.  ;D

Well Jean has given up riding  :'(  so that won't happen again.  I will think about coming in the car, I just have to "wait and see"

Doug, there's WAY mo great ones than ya can git to in a few days! 215, 178, 276, 63, 197, 209, prolly plenty others...  :great:

Like Paulie said, there is some very good riding around there. Unfortunately I won't make it this year. It's the weekend before my rally, so I'll be at home prepping for HMR#6.  :'(

I generally make a it two day trip going across. I camp at Land Between the Lakes in NW TN/western KY. Nice area and frugal camping options, especially frugal with the geezer card.

Yeah, there you go. Shawn, just go to Kurt's and stay for the week, then head to Cliff's. Problem solved!

Did I mention the area has some attractions?

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum
Blue Ridge Parkway
Cherokee Indian Reservation (and Harrah's Casino!)

My bad, I should have more clearly defined 'challenge'.  It's the challenge of being away from my 6 yo daughter for 2 weeks, and the bigger challenge of her mother agreeing to watch her.

Shawn,

Just pokin fun at you. We have all been there, I didn't ramp up my COG activities until the kids were more mobile and self sufficient. Soon she will be old enough for you to take her with, nothing like that Father/Daughter moto bonding experience.

No worries Kurt, you'll have to try a lot harder than that to offend me. :pokestick:

I sincerely was just clarifying my challenge of being on the road.  I have been amused by some of the past threads about 'dangers of riding (and other high-risk activities), giving it up while the kids are young, etc'.  At 58 with a 6 yo, I have kinda gone in the opposite direction.  She was born Nov '12, bought Connie in Oct '15 (after a short hiatus) and starting skydiving Sep '16 (after a long hiatus).

I could give it all up tomorrow, but why when I see acquaintances, friends and family members dying of things that have the least bit to do with riding or jumping??

Plus, she won't be young forever...and yes, I do involve her in both activities, explain the dangers, but emphasize the safety and fun.  You'll be seein' her in another 10 years or so.

Great news, Jerry. Just be sure to listen to the medical professionals in your life  ( Just trying to help, Jeanne 😁).

I'm currently in 2019 travel planning stages. This may work but would likely be bringing RT(and spouse?) with bike in tow, likely camping. Hit Cliff's after then head to MN for the fourth resurrection of the Johnston brother's annual fishing, drinking, and now OHV riding, extravaganza.

TTFN.

Skol.

Supposed to day 'painful as all helll' and 'I can't recommend it to anyone'...
Now I'm actually considering it.

What timeline did they give you for being back on 2 wheels? (their recommendation....not yours ;-) )

6 months for the bike, two weeks for the car  I guess the thought of a motorcycle incident vs a car are far worse for the neck.  I am thinking 4 moths should do it though.  I don't see how you are putting up with the pain vs having pain with the surgery, which is there but it is easing up by the day

I was married. My tolerance for pain is pretty high.  :rotflmao:

But....
The nerve killing they did last month is already starting to 'feel' again.
Not as bad as it was, but I can feel the burning again starting down my arm.
It lasted a month.
So...we're getting closer to the 'end'.

Time heals all wounds (we hope!!)

Rally should lift the spirits of those attending. Come see us at the Rally in the Valley!

Just spotted this (I need to visit the forum more often!), checking the vacation schedule when I go back to work tomorrow night and signing up if the days are available. See you there!

Registered and looking forward to it. There should be 3 possibly 4 in our group.
I plan to lead some rides as I know the roads pretty well. More details as we get closer.

I have a map of motorcycle roads. I'm gonna check it tonight to see if Maggie is in it. Gettin stoked  :motonoises:

Long enough! Not to mention shop cleaning, you didn't think always that clean & neat did you? Thens there's grocery shopping. A lot of grass cutting, Kurt gets fussy if the grass is a little tall.  :nananana:

I may still try to squeeze it in, just not counting on it. Would definitely be last minute though.

And it's 5-8" tomorrow with freezing rain and sleet.
Wondering if I can fit a plow to the front of the wing, cause there is NO way I'm trailering a bike.
Ever.

It's the south. 72 and rainy here in N. Ga  this Sunday. 38 and sleet today on Tuesday.

"Don't like the weather? Wait a day."  :))

1) On trip to my first ever overnight rally (pre-COG) stopped in Dyersburg, TN to let the storm pass. Clear sailing the rest of the way.
2) On way home from work several years ago stopped on side of US 27 to let the twister pass before proceeding to drive home. "Let" may not be the best choice of words here...

It's getting real - the basement is filling up with swag for the Rally. Sure wouldn't want to see y'all missing out on the ton of stuff Kawasaki is sending our way... >:D >:D >:D >:D

As long as the swag doesn't encroach on the beer room, we're good.

It does not suck.  :great:

Then their is the trifecta in September with RWTW, Spider, and some sort of rally in ARK. Being retired does help with scheduling.

See ya at Cliff's.

From page one:
There are also a number of camping options close by. Two nice options among the many available are:
Winngray Campground  26 Winngray Ln, Waynesville, NC 28785  winngraycampground.com
Pride Resort & RV Campground  4394 Jonathan Creek Rd, Waynesville, NC 28785 pridervresort.com.
These are about 5 miles out from Rally Central.

Anyone with a hotel reservation backing out of this?
Not sure what else is going on in town that weekend, but there are no rooms left across any of the hotels.
Since I'm planning on attending, and you know that means rain all weekend, I'd like to spend the nights indoors.
If you're looking to keep the rain away...I understand.  :nananana:
I'll just make reservations for the Nationals instead >:D

When calling to reserve a room tell the hotel you are with COG. I reserved my room yesterday and was told there were still rooms available in the block we had reserved.

Thanks

Glad I read this thread tonight. I just called the Inn and made a reservation for the rally for Thursday thru Saturday. Sounded like there were still a few rooms left for the COG folks. I've got vacation to burn by July 1st or loose it.  Looking forward to attending this rally. I usually only get to go to the RWTW. Now I get to go to both this year.  :)

I haven't signed up yet for this or the Nationals yet.  :(
There's just too much going on with my dad ......

..... and I don't think that I even put 100 miles on my bike this year.......  :(

72 degrees and sunny here in N. Ga today. Similar weather over in Maggie Valley. Come on down/over/up!!

Ron

Now going to 33 and below tomorrow morning. Dontcha love Spring?  :-\
Don't fret, though, because freezing temps are usually gone by mid-April - And the host for the event is a hotel!!! With an indoor restaurant/bar.  :beerchug: And fresh coffee.  :)

Plenty of time left to register and get a room. Look forward to seeing you folks soon!

Spring in Maggie Valley.  Good conversation on the lawn...  Great riding in the middle.........Oh yeah. I'm SO looking forward to a mini-vacation!!

I had 76F on Saturday while working on the truck.
It's 32F with snow right now.
It's spring in WV...all 4 seasons in a week isn't all that uncommon.

Saw in a past post that all the rooms with a king were all taken. Earlier  today I exchanged my room with a king for one with two twins. My nephew may ride up. So it may be available.

I'd like to see my SE brethren @ SRitV, but I committed to the HMR and I'm trying to fit both in.

That would mean I'd be on the road for 2 wks and my 6 y.o. would not be happy with daddy (and frankly, I would miss her a ton).

I'll know by the end of the week, but I'll have my camping stuff for Cliff's, so I'm kinda with SteveJ on the hotel thing...more economical too.

We typically do camping events, but wanted to try something a bit different this time. Some of SECOG' s  previous rallies in the Spring had cold weather issues, particularly as we got further north of Atlanta. So, to add variety to the venues we thought we'd give a hotel rally a try. Further ride for me, to boot  :motonoises:

Yep. The rotating location and  type of events for the Spring rally was a group brain-storm last fall by the whole leadership team and we're gonna have a GOOD TIME in the Valley!!!  (C'mon Shawn, you know you're filthy rich!! You DO live in a resort state, you know...)  ;D

Tom, I'm totally with ya...not having to setup/breakdown camp / freeze your arse off at night, is a blessing.  For me its just a matter logistics and economics.  I'll try and work some magic.

Ron, yes, I do live in a resort state, but I'm usually in a confused state. ;D

That's why ______(insert deity here) invented small electric heaters and extension cords. It's awesome waking up to 70* inside the tent and looking outside to see frost on the bike.

Making coffee in the vestibule is a bonus.

Just to toss this out there, I have a room to myself with two beds for three nights. If someone needs a room and don't mind sharing a room to split the cost contact me.

Steve, Shawn, if your wanting to go and need to stash a vehicle and/or trailer, you can park it at my house. I'm about 3.5 hours / 190 miles from the hotel. I'm heading up Thursday morning around 9am ish.

As SWMBO is not attending, I have a King room but could change it to 2 doubles if someone wants to share a room.

We are also heading out to the HMR the following Wednesday afternoon and can host anyone for a few days doing the same.

You can also arrive here early, all though you may be subject to work detail.  >:D I'm sure they'll be a few others early.

Hey Kurt, your signature has wrong info. HMR is 2 - 5th, not 3 - 6th.  :nananana:

Appreciate the offer but will likely not attend.

Thanks Kurt and Cliff...much appreciated.

Kurt - I'll be meeting up with ya somewhere before the HMR.  Stay tuned.

Ok, I have a King room I am going to cancel as Kay is not going and I found a roommate to split the cost of a double room. Does anyone want the King?
