Hello! Looking forward to warmer climes and excellent riding with friends?? Well, here's your ticket!!

The registration for the 2024 edition of the Carving the Cumberlands Spring Rally is now open at this location: https://concours.org/event-5446620

As before, the site is Fall Creek Falls State Park outside of Sparta, Tennessee and we are located in Piney Creek Camp (FKA Group Camp 2). Lodging is in the form of cabins with rudimentary bunks (no tent camping at the site allowed, please). Located in central Tennessee the roads are marvelous and there are plenty of locations to explore and enjoy in the immediate vicinity. The site has 24 cabins, dining hall, commercial kitchen, 3 bath houses and a rec center. Theme is "Rustic” and was described by sage comrades in the past as, “think Boy Scout Camp”. The park Lodge/Restaurant is very close to the camp. Piney Creek is a large camp and fairly level, with a big field in the middle that has a base/softball backstop and a huge "bon fire" pit next to it with rough benches around it. Bring those Kermits and such if your tooshie needs more than lumber, logs, or rocks!

Registration is online and $85 for members, $100 for non-members. The registration covers breakfast and supper for three days (April 25-28) beginning with supper on the 25th and ending with breakfast on the 28th and your lodging. The event has access to a full kitchen, meeting area, and central open space suitable for the mandatory campfire. Also required upon registration is the assignment of work for one shift involving either cooking or general camp cleanliness.

More complete information is available on the event page. Look forward to seeing one and all in April if not sooner!

Hi Tom, some (not sure how many) are planning to ride from central Indiana, route TBD.
To help us plan, around what time is dinner on the 25th?

Thanks Tom. This is a unique event. It’s actually a terrific opportunity to meet and talk with people while everyone pitches in. Beautiful area, too.

About 6pm ish. If anyone is arriving later, we can hold some food in the warmers, plus what ever is left over we put in the walk in cooler and can warm it up at any time. Just let Tom or me know your approximate arrival time.

Heard that you might come. I’m looking forward to meeting you.

Last time we held this rally, several attendees wanted to arrive on Wednesday so we rented the camp for an extra day and split the cost between those that arrived Wednesday. The cost of the camp for one mid week day is $200 which was split among the 7 of us. If anyone wants to arrive early this year, we can do the same, just let me know.

You don't know what you're saying...😂
Tom, meeting there sounds good.
My good friend (coworker before I "stopped working") and I will ride down together and three will ride back!
It looks like my brother won't be making it.

Thanks for these 2 posts. I was playing with routes down there. Non cycling friends in Nashville had suggestions but I was not relying on them for routes. . Going to do some research ..... Coming from ATL and doing the weekend with COggers on the way back to IN.... I had planned this one out for Friday or Sat but see so much possibility https://goo.gl/maps/MbQBoMUkQ8qnSUAU7

RIde home from ATL plan Start Thursday AM.

Looking forward to winter research as we still have 2 months of spotty riding.

Your route looks good. The one from Fall Creek Falls to Tellico, I would take Hwy 39 from Athens TN to Tellico Plaines.

Your long route from ATL to IN looks good, there are kinds of great roads from N Georgia up thru Western NC.

Looking forward to having you at the rally.

Also, you are not far from us where you are staying in Oxford GA, we are in McDonough.

If you’re in Oxford GA, you’re east of Atlanta-a good thing!

A gps or Google maps will be helpful. Set these towns as way points.

So I’d suggest staying out of metro Atlanta and go up to Winder GA, on to Gainesville where I live, (find Hwy 60), go on to Suches Ga (where we do Run With The Wolf), stay on 60 to Copper Hill TN, then set your GPS for Fall Creek Falls State park.

Lots of great riding and you’ll avoid Atlanta AND Chattanooga. Probably 6 hours with a gas and lunch stop.

Winder /Gainesville /Suches is the route I took last spring coming home. Cut up to Tellico Plains and got held up with a Harley coming the other way plowed into the ditch and all sorts of traffic stopped to pull his bike out while he was being transported to the hospital. His group was trying to figure things out and let me know 'no help needed" in a curt manner.

Not looking to save time and will probably throw in Back of the Dragon and Cherhola on the way over. I think I would like to see it. Last year rode Cherhola coming down with 20 foot visibility for the 6 miles over the top....got marginally better as I got down the mountain and sunlight at the bottom. Hope to see it in sunlight.

Coming down day 2 via robbinsville Gainesville Winder went back via Suches

I think I am going to plot your route and another via Cherhola /Dragon and see what the weather (Cue Indigo Girls "Southland in the Springtime") looks like on the way back . As always ....I am excited to get to GA and wipe the pollen off the black bike and get a chance to go over it in My bro in laws shop before the riding season gets going. Peaceful week back in the woods working on the bike and visiting

If anyone else is East of ATL and wants to ride together I will adjust accordingly on THURSDAY

You probably won’t get a lot of traffic in the mountains on a Thursday.

We have a RTE in Tellico Plains occasionally. The Tellico Plains Bakery might be a good lunch place if it’s open.

I can see me coming home via Cherohala and Tellico Plains. Have done it several times as I live NW of Atlanta. Add a brewery stop or two for gathering end of day treats in Copper Hill and it's a good day.

If you zoom in on that water fall picture, you might be able to see 2 people in bottom right corner. They like ants.

I'll be there Wednesday Kurt. Looking forward to it. Riding up instead of trailering. Gonna enjoy this! Not that I didn't enjoy other ones!

Yahoo! Fifteen registered thus far. Fifteen who recognize the value that exists in getting three days of great riding all for the low (member) price of $85 which covers lodging, registration, and evening/breakfast meals. Oh, and did I mention nightly campfires?? And the added joy of serving your fellow rallygoers??

Freebird came up with a loop for doing the Dragon, followed by the Cherahola Slyway, and I converted it to a GPX file. Approximately 283 miles, Garmin says 7h16 minutes to ride it. tom suggested I post it on the thread for the event, so here it is. In order to upload it, I converted it to a zip file. The three Hoosiers plan to do this Friday the 26th.
;)

Awesome. Just watch for things called curves and elevation changes. 🤣

Setting up the work team schedule as I write this. Early registrants get their choice of assignments while all will serve....:)

Hey! 22 registrants! For those of you on the fence, there's still time to sign up. Think of it as an incentive to get the bike in shape for the upcoming season a tad earlier...

He Tom,
I just tried to add a friend to my registration.
I wound up with a message that "send Tom and Email"
It should be in your in box at "twsills@comcast.net"
If ya need anything further from me shoot me a text at 513-932-2494
Cheers
Bob

I am trying to join ya'll but COG SNAFU sez I am already reg'd. I would love to save 85 but I'm still not on the list....Help me Obi-wan...

Maybe I should try to register with an old e-mail address? Hell, I'll try that tomorrow if I'm still SNAFU...nytol...

If you have a receipt don’t worry just come on. I sent an email to the Events coordinator and cc’d you and Kurt Brown.

I'm still in limbo; would rather get this fixed but am prepared to walk on. Kurt/Tom: since you didn't get my form, slot me in to prep/cook/clean wherever it works best 4u. I'll bring a few knives. Just let me know ahead if you need me for Thur dinner shift; I'm riding in from Greenville, SC that day.

Home about 2:00 pm.

That was a fun rally and the food was excellent. Thank you Kurt, Bugnut, Kay, Jimmie, and everyone else.
