Is this sound typical for a 2008 C14 with less than 9k miles?

I have not yet lubed the rear splines or inspected the joints.

No,
  It is not normal.  I'd remove the wheel, final drive and inspect/lube the
drive shaft splines and the rear wheel splines before any more big mileage.
Honda Moly 60 would be my lube of choice for the rear wheel splines and
the bevel drive end splines.
