2013 SW regional Rally

Anyone in my area, Santa Rosa, want to ride up together?  I'll probably leave on Thursday 6/6 and return Monday 6/10.
Probably taking the route through Las Vegas.  :motonoises:

Gregg - I think I mentioned I'm probably heading up on Thursday, going through Yosemite and spending the night in Tonopah. I know some pretty good roads between here CC - a lot better than droning down I5 and through Barstow. Let's take this offline if you're interested.

Going through some old  pictures and wanted to prime the red rock country that we will be riding.......

Lemme try this. PDF downloads of route sheets for all four ride's suggested. Let's see if it works. Stuff 'em in your PC, Stuff 'em in your printer, Stuff 'em in your Phone, Stuff 'em in your Ipad, Stuff 'em in your..............you get the idea. Hard copies will also be available at reg with the rally map for reference. GPX files are also available and I can do Tom Tom on special request but it'll cost ya' :)
Nope. To big. PM or email me for downloads. I'll try to figure how to get them on the rally page. Why do I feel like Ralphie in Xmas Story? :motonoises:

Try these....  yeah, I know, no Snow Canyon. So sue me.

These are the database route files and don't include the map like a GPX. You'll need mapsource or basecamp to open them and transfer to your device.

Yeah, I'm lazy.

Your a magician. I'll email the PDF's and GPX files over to you. Maybe you can shrink 'em and post 'em. I aren't shmart enough.

PDF route sheet downloads are posted on the Rally web page. Yahoo. I'll try the GPX files next. :)

So I'm sitting here going through the exercise of reducing file sizes so you can post them!  All because you say you ain't "shmart enough." And now you say you uploaded them on the server?  :38:  You owe me a beer.

I owe a bunch of people beers.  :beerchug: Thanks to Mr. Jim here are the GPX files zipped. You'll have to unzip. They will download direct to you Garmin but will refuse to open with the streets and trips tag in mapsource or base camp. I'll work on getting these posted on the web page to Iffin' I'm shmart enough  :))

Just to clarify - the GPX files were created in MS Streets&Trips. S&T doesn't play nice with Garmin's Mapsource or Basecamp. So you need to unzip the files and transfer them directly to the GPX folder on your device. Your device will ignore the S&T header and load the map file just fine.

I have arranged to have a masseuse available doing chair massages on Friday, June 7th between the hours of 3-7pm for $1 a minute.  You can thank Mr. Bill "NotSluggo" Sherrill for the great idea!!!  Since she has agreed to do this without a guaranteed base fee, let's make it worth her while!

I'm already looking forward to mine!!  :great:

Had a question for Mikey, but figured I would post it here.  I wanted to get in Bryce and Zion during the trip.  Does "Mike's Loop" include Bryce, or no?  Kinda of looks like it just goes in the area.  Was considering doing Mike's Loop on Saturday, and then doing Zion on Sunday "on the way out" (riding thru NV on 50, about 1/2 way back on Sunday).

Thanks,
Randy

Hey Randy, Bryce Canyon is only 5 miles off HW12 on HW 63 and is a must see!  Might be too late to get the out-n-back added to the maps but I've shown it here:  http://goo.gl/maps/FeBYk

Hiya, I'm riding to the Rally from LA area. Leaving Tuesday June 4, staying in Primm NV Tuesday night, Buffalo Bill's. Primm to Cedar City on Wednesday.
My riding buddy Marc may have to bail on the trip due to a lingering stomach virus. New meds, will give me a yes or no on Thursday. So I may be solo.
If your plans co-mingle, perhaps we could hook up for part or all of the ride. It looks like most folks are leaving later in the week than that.
Our rooms are pre-paid, so I'm sticking to that plan.
Send me an email if there are any possibilities.

HI all,

I,m travelling now from Montrose (CO) to south.
Bike : Concours C10  - 2003.

After that , Hanksville to Bryce to Cedar City for the Rally.

Have a leaking and stinking fuel gage connection, tank to Gasket.
Gasget is in good shape. bad surface on the tank foot / face.
Maybe , little liqued metal or something and then grinding / sanding.
Maybe spray metal like Chrome?
After Cedar City another several weeks on the bike, heading Las Vegas / Reno, Redwoods, Corbett.

My wife get sick of the smell.

Can anybody help?

Thanks

Harry and Coty

Thanks to all the folks who have responded to my request for riding buddies... It looks like I am going to arrive before anyone else (Wednesday night),
so my plans don't mesh with anybody from LA. But I will see you all there.
Marc had to bail, speedy recovery to him.

I have a fish pond in my front yard - and when one of the filter lines leaks I use the stuff below.  You can buy it at any Home Depot for about $5.  Doesn't say anything about using it near gasoline - but it'll stop the leak for sure.

Good luck - and see you in CC.

Canadian Tire says this stuff will work. VersaChem Gas Tank Repair. I had a pinhole leak on my 86 C-10 while traveling in Canada.
It was down at the bottom flange by the petcock. Leaking all over my left leg. I smeared this stuff on the leak point, with a full tank, and it set up in about 10 minutes. Held for 6 months until I found a used tank at a salvage yard. Miracle.

You can get it in the USA at O'Reilly Auto Parts stores, supposedly.

Is anyone attending the rally willing to share a room and split the costs?  I have a rider here in Utah (great guy) who would very much like to attend the rally and stay at Rally Central, but the hotel wants to charge him $124 a night.

Let me know as soon as possible.....and thanks!!!

Mike

We have found someone with an extra room, problem solved!!!  Thanks to those involved!!!  Good job crew!  :great:

Mike

Welcome to Cedar.  If things fall apart and someone is in a bind let me know (sorry I haven't been looking at the board).  We have a spare bed or floor space (backyard could take a tent but you won't need a tent, you can sleep under the stars here), a few tools, garage, and a truck/trailer if need be.... hopefully no one needs the later.

Cedar is a great town.  Enjoy!

John

That is awesome John!  Thank you so much for the offerings!!  John, I do not see your name down as being registered (perhaps I missed it), will you be attending???

Mike

My bad.... I did miss it.  :-[  There ya' are!  Look forward to meeting you John!!  ;D

The bike is packed and I'm ready to go.  On the road with Bob, Speedrachet, and Denver6 tomorrow morning - KSU @ 0700.  Destination: Durango, CO.  Guessing day-1 to be an approximately 375 mile ride (including The Million Dollar Highway) on our way to Cedar City.
Weather guessers have the potential for showers along the way - and a chilly low 50s as we roll out of town in the morning.  We'll just have to ride between the drops if they start falling.  :motonoises:
Damn I'm stoked!
>:D  >:D

Hope you're bringing hot weather gear with ya, Bill.... temps on Friday and Saturday will be getting into the mid 90's with no clouds.  ;D

C'ya there.

Mark, Mike. I regret to say Ingrid and i will not be attending the rally this weekend. We are however trailering the Bike to British Vancouver and camping on Vancouver Island for 10 days Leaving the truck at base camp and riding exploring the island on the Connie. I wish everyone a Great time and a safe trip. Bert

Thank you Mark and all ye "plank owners" and associates for putting on and hosting a great South West Regional Rally out of Cedar City Utah.  We counted 40 plus bikes in and around the parking area.  The loops were great.  Thank you Mike B and your elf's, riders and support, for all the hard work and developing the loop that Reta and I enjoyed on Friday, 360 miles, time out 9 hours with 7 hours saddle time...worth every minute spent and every drop of fuel consumed.

Thanks, Tom T. of Tuscon for the company on the ride to Bryce on Saturday....by the way don't be breaking any glass windows  :truce:

To all the Rally Team great venue, food, friends, fun roads and booty...what more could you ask for  :103: :bravo_2: :singing:

To Mark, "stay thirsty my friend",

Bert and Reta

I'm definitely hittin this one next year, especially if their passing out booty.  :D

I don't think I ever laughed so hard as we were sitting around hot rodding Mike's (spikey) smart car. I think so far we have a hot cam, headers and a set of 10 inch M/T's on order. Brad man is working on a 100 shot nitrous kit, tranny lock and parachute. I'm trying to find a fire suit with a ash tray and coffee cup holder for him.  :)) Oh Yeah. It's a convertible. Let that run through your head for awhile.

Hey mark, mike b and Bert and all the others. Had a great time, nice ride and it was glad to meet you all and put some faces with the names. Mark the award I received was great ,just trying to help out. But with everyone's help we had a great time thanks again. I hope everyone enjoyed my little town and rays cooking look forward too meeting you all again, ride on

Thanks to all who attended!  Had a GREAT time!  610 miles back home today...12 1/2 hours...Man!  It was hot! :motonoises:

Jim in Phoenix and I made it back this afternoon.  I pulled into my driveway just about 5.  10 hours (will have to check odometer tomorrow...  Can't remember how many miles... )

Thanks to all involved for putting on such a great event.  And so nice to put faces with names!  Special thanks to Jim Pavlis for showing me how to use a multi meter and to Brad (CRocker) for letting me take his Connie for a spin to check out her new windshield.

Oh,  Deyv (my S. O.) said he also had a great time and enjoyed meeting y'all.  He made it to Reno tonight and also said that he hopes whomever was on the side of the road with the cops outside of Tonapah is ok...  (Apparently he met two COGGERS heading home from the rally and saw them again a bit later with some police "escorts"? He, unfortunately didn't remember any names..., just that one was from the Bay area and the other nearish the Bay area...)

Thanks Mark for stepping up, you did a fantastic job!  The rally was a great success and there couldn't have been a better way to get this region rolling again.  It was great meeting ALL of you and putting faces together with names.  I'd like to thank the Utah contingent for representing.... Larry Lords, Tom Hinkler, Terry Defreese, Scott Kenefick, Dave Turner & Jim Harris. Can't wait for the 2014's!

BTW, for those that are interested...with as much recreational inhaling as I executed in my youth, I should never trust my short term memory. :-[  I pulled my service log and I got 6,451 miles on that PR3 that I rode into Cedar on Thursday.  So, there ya' have it.  Not bad I must say...especially as hard as I ride that thing.  ::)

Great Job Mark!
Everyone was real friendly and this group has a great sense of humor!
Not so sure I will be wearing that M/M size Baldwin T Shirt though?
Dynamite selection of roads and destinations!
What a fantastic warm up for my first national!

I posted some pictures on the FB page because you don't have to shrink them... :great:

Thanks again Mark...GREAT job!  :bravo_2:

Gee, thanks. Guess I'll post my pics (including those of you, Gregg) someplace where only certain people can see them.

I have said it before and I will say it again... all COG related FB pages and content should be made fully public so any club member can see the material, not just FB users who sign up.

Great times and great roads - though some of the signs can just bring out the hooligan in me....

Stubby - nice to have met you and your crew - and great pictures!

Had a great time. Met a lot of nice people, though (as is typical) I can't remember their names. (One of my wife's pet peeves -- how I forget names and resort to "hey dude" ....) Anyway, had a great ride on Stubby's Great Adventure Tour. Here's a couple of pics -- Stubby in the lead and one in which he is blowing by the camera so fast he barely got in the picture.

I had a great time between riding in with Harry and Coty, and the rally itself.  1750 miles door to door.  The ride home with LadyDi was also a blast - literally after we got back to Arizona.
While at lunch at the Long Valley Cafe in Happy Jack, AZ, the side stands sank over an inch into the asphalt.  Now hoping to be able to make the National, but definitely looking forward to
the next SW rally.  Many thanks to Mark and all the helpers, and to Jim P for leading a beautiful ride on Saturday.
Jim in Phoenix

I keep forgetting to mention that I fell victim to the parking lot gremlin. Got about 6 miles down the road and the hands started feeling warm. Looked down and said Damnit! I will hunt you down and find you. I have the hotel checking cameras now.  :))

I have a half dozen shirts left over from the rally. Sizes xl and 2xl. We'll have them at the national for sale at cost (15 bucks) or send me what you want and cost plus shipping. You folks are the best.
Mark

Hi folks ,

We made it back to the Netherlands a few weeks ago and after some busy weeks we are glad to say " thanks , to all of you "for spending us a great time together at the SW Rally.
Special thanks to jim Pavlis and all the others for there contribution to organizing this rally.

It was also very surprising that  we could meet some "old "acquaintances again.

We hope you we all have lots of safe rides  and stay in good health.
