Appropriate Use of a Car Tire?

Sport rider

Iron Butt
for your entertainment and discussion.  I can't say I like the sidecar rig setup on a sporty bike, but I can certainly admire the engineering involved.

I thought it a bit funny that the same day I was reading a thread where someone was unhappy with the discussion of a car tire on a C14 due to safety reasons I was looking at a picture on my screen saver of a C14 with a side car.  That C14 had a car tire on the front and I assume the back.

A sidecar rig doesn't lean the way a motorcycle does, though obviously someone put a lot of engineering thought into a proper suspension for that particular one.  I suspect a car tire would work just fine here.

+1

It is an indisputable fact putting a car tire on a motorcycle negatively impacts its handling, mostly because it hinders turn in (cornering).

That rig is beautiful, and I bet it rides really nice on those tires.

Ever heard the comment from someone not owning a MC who says they would never have a MC that was not a HD?
Same type of negative comments about the CT on a MC.
No experience, just bias.

Bias?  Really?  I'd think a low-profile radial would work better in this application.  :motonoises:

ROFL, Dan. Our Mr. Bruce was just trying to take a shot at the contention a car tire on a motorcycle hinders handling.

Which is not a good bet, because in an argument of facts, he would lose.

You are right, its not bias, those are radial tires in the photos. And on that rig, they probably work exceeding well.

Bruce, slap a set of car tires on the bike of your choice, and let us know how it handles on twisty roads. I've got your bias for ya!
