GROUP - In final preparations for routing (epic routes too...) I did my usual checking of routes with DOT and found there are 18 road closure in the heart of where we wanted to go. This is due to numerous landslides, bridge and road washouts stemming from remnants of Hurricane Beryl. Wishing the region a speedy recovery, long road ahead...

We will try to toss together an alternate ride, will be last minute, and let everyone know in case someone wants to tag along.

Ughh

My wife never wants to go to Vermont again. After visiting my son in Bangor we decided to try and go east to west across VT. Road construction was nothing like I have ever seen before. We ended up on Gravel roads on the side of a mountain on a marked State Highwaqy that had been stripped down to the dirt but was still being used as a workable route. I tried to get off and take alternative routes like we do here ni the Midwest. That was a disaster.

Glad I was in my pick up as there were moments that I shifter down to 4WD Lo to get over the terrain.

You are pretty good to be able to use the VT DOT site as we were in areas with no service at the worst possible moment when we needed a connection the most.

If this was just recently, last few days, I would expect it’s part of the fallout from Hurricane Beryl.

Seems the direct impact on the region from the storm was acute but quite impactful.

Also after researching more found out the recovery from last year’s floods is still underway - area has been hit hard.

I do a fair amount of riding in Vermont. There is great twisty riding with nice elevation changes. The state statute regarding passing on a double yellow is quite nice too. I have found that many of the seasonal dirt roads are quite nice shape to take a sport tourer, but way more fun on dual-sport. Due to the harsh weather changes, roads can suffer from frost heaves.

I remember in Summer 2011, shortly after the COG Nationally Rally in Vermont, the area was hit by Tropical Storm Irene, which devastated the area. The flooding wiped out many roads, small bridges, and buildings. Dots, a favorite breakfast spot, almost slide into the river. Since then, several other hurricanes have swept through, causing more damage including Beryl most recently, as Wayne mentioned.
