C-14 Headlight Adjustment

UP

Bicycle
I live in north Georgia where deer are jumping at night so I set my headlights up like: * Find a dark, flat stretch of road with little or no traffic. * Assume your natural riding position in the lane. (I usually ride a little right of center). * Activate the low beams. * Using the adjuster knobs on the dash, raise the beams so the far end of light just touches the horizon of the road. * Using the right adjuster knob, raise the right headlight a little more than the left * Using the adjuster knob under the dash, bring both lights to the right a little. (Doing this will light up any deer on the right side of the road. *Switch to high beams to verify the lights aren

Good tips on adjusting the lights, and I use 100/90w in my '02 ZZR1200 so they should be ok in the 14. Light up the world! I have mine like adjusted also... funny thing, I did a comparo with Murph's new lights vs the NAPA 80/10 vs stock lamps, and found very little difference between any of them, so the stock lamps seem to work damn good... I don't think the 80/100's will hurt, but truthfully I don't see a lot of difference on the C14, the old Conni however really did need them.... In my experience, 100/80W, 100/90W, 130/100W, etc H4 bulbs produce a shedload more light. However, they run hotter than the stock 60/55W and melt the plug on the back of the bulb. They're also rated for fewer hours before failure, and the additional watts draw extra amps, which might fry the fuses, switch contacts and in extreme cases the wiring loom. And they're not street legal where I live. There are 60/55W H4 bulbs that are rated as say 80% brighter than stock without the additional power. I've got these, and to be honest I'm not sure if there's any visible difference. Going back to the OP, UP has noted the way to get the best out of headlights is to ensure that they're correctly aimed. And the clear plastic covers should also be kept spotlessly clean.
