Canyon Cages Removal???

I have my bike at the shop getting the valves done. The mechanic, who has experience with C14's, can't get one bolt out of the canyon cage. According to hi it is th one that possibly shares a motor mount position. He says it comes loose, but if he keeps going it goes back tight. Help!

yes, you can't get the side fairing off to get in and do the valve job.

If the top fin is clipped per the installation instructions there's no need to remove them. I've had the plastic off my 08 countless times & never removed the cages in 16 years. When I bought my 10, I was removing the plastic to service air filter & the fins had not been clipped. I just stuck some snips in to clip it, no cage removal.

You can't see it when clipped, maybe someone has a picture. I'll take a side panel off tomorrow if needed to take a picture.

Thank you! Our next step is to clip the fairing in the morning and see if that gives us enough access. The mechanic is a little concerned about clearance to get the valve cover off. He has done several of these, just not one with a stuck crash bar.

It may not be the issue, but I'll mention it just in case. If it is the rear upper engine mount bolt, the long one, it has a hex portion in the shank that fits in a threaded adjustment collar that is used to take up space between the engine and the frame. Turning that bolt counter-clockwise will turn that adjustment collar out taking up space between the engine and the frame. That is the only bolt I could think of that will tighten up if you are trying to loosen it from the bolt side? This bolt would need to come out to get the right side canyon cage off. Here is a snippet of the bolt and the collar (right side of engine):

You also should ease some weight off the mounts with a scissor jake under the motor, Just a 'skosh', and it can make it thread out by hand. Not a CC specific trick, but I have used it with Top Block and Woodcraft components on different Kawis.

Tell him to tap it with a punch and the bolt will pop out the other side. Doesn't take much effort or you risk threads and such. It worked like a champ the only time I took off my cages.

We gave up on the bolt! We trimmed the fairing just enough to slip it off over the crash bar. Doing all the work from the other side of the bike. Thanks to all who posted! signal-2025-04-15-152759.jpeg
