Well, crud, here we go again. All of you southeastern COGgers, particularly in Florida, please do your best to stay safe or get out of Dodge. If you get a chance, please post your status and updates in this thread over the next few days and whether or not you need something. Maybe someone in the club can help out.
Ron

Old hat for us who've lived in FL most of our life

But those in the Tampa really need to hunker down

Hoping it weakens a bit before it gets to my area on the east coast. Actually hoping it weakens before it hits anywhere in FL. Stay safe out there. Prayers for the west coasters.

My wife and are in Key West, originally planned to stay till Friday…..

Fly out tomorrow at noon tomorrow. Hopefully
😬😬😬😬

Do watch out for the surge in your area, could be pretty rough.

Being in the middle of the state we should be good hunkering down. Our ex son in law will likely come and visit. He lives just south of Tampa about 5 miles inland from the bay. Essentially ground zero. He already lost a tree from Helene.

Ron, thanks.

Hello all,
Sorry for those already impacted from “Debby”
& “Helene” we plan to ride it out here in Parrish FL. Our daughter and granddaughter had to evacuate from their apartment and are with us as well.
Hope that we all can get past this alright.
Stay safe

We’ve been in the south wall of the eye of the last 3. Power poles snapped, lines down, locked onto our property. We are in the woods wirh a 600’ driveway / powerline. Preparation is the key. My generator keeps us comfortable. Tree on the house 2 weeks ago, just got that mess cleaned up. If this hits Tampa, we will be on the N side with strong E winds. More trees down. Still, thankfully not dealing with storm surge. I have a video of the Suwannee running uphill from Helene about 1 mile from our house. Kinda could use a break this time, but that means family members S of us get hit. Welcome to Florida!

We have winter storms here, wind, snow and cold, but nothing like this. We will be in the Panama City Beach area all next week, looks like it will miss that part of FL. Keep your heads down and your powder dry, we are thinking of you all.

Steve, how much gas did you stockpile ahead of Helene?
I imagine you're not running it continously, but after a while the gas usage cannot add up.

Naples, hopefully, we don't get much surge here, it flooded badly two years ago,

My 80-year-old brother bought his dream house by the water

He just came back for the winter season, and his dream is going to flood, he is on the dirty side of the storm which has the highest surge

Nokomis is south of Sarasota, his area will get the highest surge, I just did $4,000. in landscaping, new grass, and plants

He said that's it! at 80 years old he can't take the stress, once everything is back to normal, he's SELLING

I'm selling and moving to the St Johns River south of Jacksonville, they have never been hit.

In 1966, at 11, I went to my brother's graduation from the University of Miami. A small hurricane hit, one of the earliest ever.

Been through 5 hurricanes, and I'm burned out also, I started chasing hurricanes in the 80's with stump grinder machines

The last one was Houston, I never want to see a STAR again, almost every house, car whatever has a star:rolleyes:

Brother said the garage is 10 ft above sea level and the house is 13, the prediction for his area is 10 to 15 feet above sea level.

F this CHIT, our schools have been closed all week.

And not in the news but it's been raining since last Friday night south Florida had a tropical system not associated with the hurricane causing it to rain almost constantly so our ground is saturated, and swales high...

The kicker is FL has two seasons, dry and rain, usually come middle of Oct we go from rain to dry and it will stop raining almost every day to weeks without any, I turn off my sprinkler system when the season starts, and back on mid-Oct.

For those of you who don't believe our weather is getting hotter fast, I've been here since 1985, we always had cold spells and frost,

I can't tell the last time we have had frost on our windshields living near the coast.

And yes sea level is rising faster and faster, and your children will pay.

Steve, I live in Naples , brother Nokomis

He said this is it, at 80 he can't take the stress, he doest want the home in NY that's Wife (da bitch) Idea,

My brother admitted to me he should have stayed with his first wife, this gal was his secretary, and familiarity breeds a hard-on.

His first wife has always been a fitness nut, she is fantastic shape now married to my brother in law, I played cupid, working for over 25 years now.

And the cute secretary is fat, sick always complaining ... His first wife was ? is Cool, likes driving Stickshift in the winter, said she has better control, and nothing bothers her, the new wife is a headache.

He said don't tell anyone but I screw up.

Hey Cuda,
You're right, Jax hasn't been hit directly in many years, but it does get glancing blows, and lots...LOTS of rain.
If you're thinking of St. John's river area, know that the bridges over the river close when winds reach 40 MPH. If you're East of the river, you will be there until the winds die down. This happened several times during our 4.5 years in the Jax area.
We lived in the Orange Park area and we're not affected that way. We "staged" for evacuation several times, but never had to leave.
I still greatly appreciate Steve calling me before our 1st hurricane to make sure we took it seriously (we were), and had a viable plan in case it came at us. 🙌

Naples flooded again, people just fixed up from two years ago

Brother house was in eye one tree down, on neighbor's house

He's VERY lucky the storm broke up just before landfall

It had the cold front from the north and dry air from the south

the storm wasn't slowed by the cold front but once the dry air got underneath it busted apart from a 5

Once the eye collapsed it was over, if that hadn't happened, so much more destruction would have happened

both wind and the worst the surge

We are getting a lot more surge damage than in years past.

We have been extremely fortunate here in Ocala. Like the first three storms we've experienced in our short residency as new Floridians, our fourth storm was mostly a lot of wind and rain. The neighbors rain gauge said 7.3 inches of rain the last two days. Yes a lot, but still a lot less than other folks probably experienced.
Ocala is more inland and somewhat higher. We also seem to have very good drainage. So we've been fortunate having little damage to speak of compared to other areas. Yes there are trees and power lines down. Some of the neighbors have lost power and such. We lost power for minutes yesterday afternoon. But for the most part, pretty minor. Although we personally did experience the horror of no internet last night until minutes ago. So we truly are fortunate. I cannot imagine the actual horrors folks are dealing with the last couple of weeks. Both here once again in Florida and north where folks were in the other storms wrath. I consider our extremely minor inconveniences a blessing, compared to the actual horrors folks have to deal with.

Living on the coast between Saint Pete till 92 and Naples since there is a night and day difference between Intensity and the F'n SURGE,

Living in the Swamp (Naples) our weather is so much different than in northern Fl, We are used to inches of rain at a time, and we live on reclaimed swamp, sand, as you watch the radar during the summer, it can be clear as can be and clouds form out of nowhere turns dark and the heaviest rain you ever experienced, south Florida rainy season, regular experience.

My brother is hiding out at our sister's place during the hurricane, He told me house hunting in the Hilton Head area where my sisters live

He has had it with Beach Life, too stressful he says.
