Trailer hitch questions.

Jerry

Tricycle
I had pulled a trailer for many years behind my old Yamaha XJ1100. On my "new" '06 Connie I have added a HitchDoc hitch, but have a couple questions. My Yamaha hitch had a couple forged eye bolts used as attachment points for the trailer's safety chains. The HitchDoc does not appear to have safety chain attachments, so where / how do you guys attach your safety chains? Second, I had built the trailer using a 5-wire harness, as the trailer was to be used only behind my Yamaha. Now that I am going to pull it behind the Connie, anyone have suggestions on where and what to use as a 5-wire connector? Hoppy has one, but it looks quite large and difficult to mount. My old system used a 5-wire connector male / felmale combo from an old snowmobile, but I was never that happy with it. However, it mounted easily to the Yamaha hitch. recommendations would be welcome. I've also posted these questions to the ZG-GTR list, so if you read both lists you will see a similar question posted there.

On my Venture I used one like this. http://www.etrailer.com/pc-TEC~20016.htm I tucked it away up under the trunk out of sight and made an extension about 30" long with a trailer side and vehicle side connector on each end to go between it and the trailer. The idea is you can hide the connector and keep it out of the weather anywhere you want then run the extension down to the trailer only when towing. Jerry, I welded on 2 5/8" single chain links as safety chain latch points (left and right side slightly angles out. Hopefully you can see the photo well enough. AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks!
