Valve stem is leaking

Has anyone had good luck with a replacement valve stem on the C-10 front and rear mag wheels? The last time I replaced the valve stems was ~ 5 years ago. The valve stem on the rear tire is leaking pretty bad. It looks like there is a bad seal between the bottom flange of the valve stem and the rubber seal that gets "sandiched" against the rim. The valve stem is made by M/C Enterprises (P/N 59-6945)and has a 45 degree angled valve stem. Do you think that I can get away with cleaning up the rim and putting some kind of sealant on the rubber seal? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jay, I would just replace the whole thing rather than try and fix it. I had a 2-piece metal and rubber angled stem and it blew out at 70mph on my front wheel. Not fun but no wreck either. Most auto parts stores sell pairs of metal valve stems for about $5 and they work great on the Concours. I also just use the rubber ones at the shop and replace them with each new tire. Good luck and err on the side of safety. You can break the bead on the rear on one side and replace the stem without a big deal, once you get the wheel off. You may be able to do it on the bike if you have one of the tire bead breakers that is like a clamp. On the little valve tool you get at the auto parts store, use the large diameter threaded section to pull a rubber valve stem through the rim. You could solve the whole problem either way and be safe. It is best to replace the unit as a whole rather than risking a blow out or quick deflation by an attempted repair. These things are fairly cheap. AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks! Installed a pair of short ones: http://kurveygirl.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=71 You can get a tire pressure chuck on them even on the rear wheel.

Thanks for the replies Dave, 2linby, and Geroge Young_ON. I am not going to try and seal the leak but will get a new valve stem. Went to the local auto stores and didn't have any luck finding a short 2 piece valve stem but did find a 90 degree valve stem @ the bike shop this a.m. The Honda P/N is 42753-MN5-004. Now I gotta put some moly on the wheel sprines, give the Unitrak zerk fittings a shot of grease, and slap on the rear wheel before going out to play. Thanks again for the info!
