Where should I mount a camera?

I bought myself a carpuride android auto device for Christmas. I have the rear camera mounted under the luggage rack, but haven't decided yet on a location for the front camera. Tell me the options, pros and cons and what you decided was best. Thanks in advance. Merry Christmas and Happy New year!

U better not turn into 1 of them dam youtube posters. And no fuzzy helmet socks on ur helmet either....!!! Lol

I mounted mine on the left hand side, using the top front bolt of the fairing. I just put a plastic washer between the bracket and the fairing to prevent scratching. I'm out of town or else I'd post a pic.

After some thought and a suggestion from my son, I installed it on the cover for the windshield mechanism. I drilled a hole for the cable to pass through which also allows the camera a bit more range of movement up and down. It's raining, so no test ride today.PXL_20241231_135535620.jpgPXL_20241231_135654387.jpg

I've mounted mine on that flat surface under the headlights. The view is unobstructed and the double-backed tape holds the lightweight camera just fine.

You did a great job there. I put mine on the left side under the front fairing. I had to leave it loose until I figured out the orientation. Spun it around as it was upside over when I turned it on. Now it is pretty well situated.

I looked at that spot on mine and I'd have to go lower onto the painted plastic to clear the windshield when it's in the lowest position...how'd you do that Bud?:unsure::unsure:

I think I'm going to try under the fairing just off center on the left side to insure that the front fender doesn't come up and smack it in a big pavement bump. Well that only will work if I'm going straight, of course if I'm turning to the left and hit a bump it might get hit....Maybe dead center as far forward as I can get and hope that the rearward movement of the fender will be enough to clear......I'll let you know.

The windshield is a mra vario on madstad brackets. The brackets give it more clearance for the camera when it's all the way down.

AhAA....OK, I'm glad I asked...at least for others that might break out the drill before they check clearances. ;)

SO Bud, while I've got you on the line, have you picked out a Visor or Glare Stomper type set up for your Carpuride display?
(Yes I'm a little off the camera topic with that, it's what I do.)

Do you have a photo of your rear mount camera and wire routing set up for the rear? (<-- returned to topic(y))

I haven't done anything for a glare shield yet. I'll take some pics of the rear camera in a while.
